Ex Railroad town? IIRC Sparks NV is home to a very large Union Pacific yard and facility. In fact, when Tesla picked that location for their GigaFactory it made perfect sense to me because of this. Lows of raw materials to deliver and large battery packs to ship out.

Yes, and likely the town was created because of the railroad. As it is on the western side of the Golden Spike location in Utah it probably was developed to house workers for the Central Pacific.
