I have searched for the answer, but there are so many conditions, I don't believe I get an answer to the issue. Here are the exact steps...

1) pull car into garage
2) put in Park. Radio is on, A/C is on, MCU on, etc
3) open door, car beeps once as I exit and close door; happens too fast to stop door close after I hear the single beep.
4) From outside I can see MCU still on, A/C still on... car acts like I'm still sitting inside
5) I see nothing on MCU or dashboard display to identify beep by peering in window without opening door. Walk away with fob does nothing
6) I open door and car status on the dashboard display is "car off", but MCO, radio, A/C are all running and never stopped when I exited.
7) I sit in seat, close door, then open door and exit, close door, and all turns off as it should and normally does. This has happened 2 times.

I'm worried one time I will not notice the beep, get out and walk away leaving car running as-is. Will it eventually lock/turn off? If so, how long would that take? When I'm out of range with fob both times that did not result in it doing anything...

Is my car broken? 2016 S September Delivery

Are you sure that the car actually goes into Park when you push the button? I had an issue where the button didn't work, but opening the door put the car into Park. The car beeped when I got out and it wouldn't shut down. It turned out I had to have the steering column computer module replaced.

A similar thing recently happened to me. I was taking my daughter to an event. We were running a little late. As I jumped out a heard a beep but didn't think much of it, we had to run inside. 20 minutes later, I walk out and see that the driving lights are still on and the driver's door is ajar. So the car was on, in a public parking lot, unattended for 20 minutes. Luckily nothing happened, but I want to make sure this does not happen again. When the fob move away from the car (it was in my pocket) and no one is in it, the car normally locks.

Now, I have the habit of checking that the mirrors have folded in after I have walked a few meters away. (Oct'16 M-X).

I have the same problem! Working with Service to fix it. It does not automatically lock when I leave. Mine doesn't let me lock the car even with the key. There must be a bad sensor that thinks I'm still in the car and won't lock it. I am logging this and have noticed that if I just open the driver's door and close it again then I can lock it with the key fob.

I've made a video -

I see that others report a faulty seat sensor. Did you explore this possibility. I also have the same issue. SC did a complete reinstall of the firmware, but the problem persists. I agree that it is most likely a faulty seat sensor. I am interested to know if any others have had their seat replaced and if the problem was resolved.
