How is the drive to Vegas?

Do you think it could be done in a 60kWh car?

The longest segment is Barstow to LV at 170 miles. With a range charge in Barstow and conservative driving home, I think it will be fine. The next longest segment between superchargers is about 130 miles, Tejon Ranch to Barstow, and it has a lower speed limit so less chance getting run down by people doing 90 or more.

My cousin just drove his SP back to LV from Fremont with stop at Harris Ranch supercharger and the stretch between Harris Ranch and Barstow is the longest, at about 220 miles with Tehachapi mountain range sapping a lot of electricity! Make sure you have a FULL range when you leave Harris Ranch if you try this. He had to stop at the Shady Oasis Trailer Park in Bakersfield to get another 30 miles or so to get to Barstow. The stretch from Barstow to Vegas was no problem for him though. I am expecting to pick my SP up in 1-2 months at factory, and I am driving to LA, then back to Las Vegas. Should be shorter stretches between superchargers and there is good hotel charging available in LA overnight. We have to get all the Vegas Model S owners together and start a local club!

Slightly off topic, but I couldn't figure out another place to address this.

I will be receiving my car next week (live in Chicago), but will be in the Bay area in March for a conference. I was wondering if it would be possible to get a tour of the factory and sent an email to my PS asking her if she knew who I should ask about this; still haven't heard back from her (I know though that they are busy with a ton of cars coming thru). Does anyone know if this is possible, and if so, who I should try to arrange this thru?

Thanks

Another option is to do what I did when I wanted a factory tour in late December ... I just asked on the forum if anyone was taking factory delivery on the day I wanted, and 'is there room for both me and my son?'. Shokunin was kind enough to offer us space.

Much faster than formally arranging thru a specialist.

I was just informed by my product specialist that they have a strict age limit of 12 for the tour - not sure if this changed in the last month.

I emailed my PS last week that I would have a 13 and a 10 year old on the tour and he replied thanking me for the information. I took that as meaning there is no issue. Hopefully the 10 year old doesn't have to wait outside.

I was asking about taking a stroller on the tour, so they may be more concerned about that. I doubt that they'll card a 10 year old that shows up for the tour.

The factory really is not setup for tours. There are forklifts flying around, welding that will hurt your eyes if you look directly at it, machinery that you could easily touch, etc. There aren't really any physical barriers to top you from doing something that could be dangerous to yourself or others, or harmful to production. They rely on guests to listen and follow directions. I think this is why there is an age limit.

I had the tour on Saturday, there was not much going on on the factory floor. The guide said there were mostly maintenance people. We had a very large group though, probably about 40 people. They needed two trolleys to fit everyone. Lots of kids too.

Really? There's an age limit? My 5.5 year old is going to be bummed. He digs on cars and robots, just like his old man.

I brought my six-year old in December, never questioned, but it was on a Saturday and the factory seemed to be humming at a pretty mellow pace.

That's odd. Why not add 30 miles, go via Tejon Ranch, and drive at decent speed and without anxiety: Tesla Supercharger Harris Ranch to Tesla Supercharger Barstow - Google Maps
