[vc_row][vc_column][vc_column_text]Elon Musk’s showmanship reached new heights Tuesday. Stunning livestream images showed his personal Tesla Roadster carried into space by SpaceX’s Falcon Heavy, which is now the most powerful rocket in operation.

The midnight cherry Roadster is one of Elon Musk’s privately owned vehicles, believed to be a 2010 model with VIN #686. The Roadster is now on a trajectory towards Mars with a mannequin dressed in a SpaceX-designed astronaut suit behind the wheel.

The car will float through space for six months to cover the 200-million-mile journey into Mars orbit.

Musk told journalists in a conference call Monday that the Roadster is now equipped with “a bunch of sensors” to send data back to Earth. And, there are three cameras now mounted to the Roadster that Musk said should provide some “epic views.”

I was good up until:

"Gorman said she is, however, uneasy with the symbolism.

"It feeds into a cult of personality which is at odds with the 'space for all humanity' narrative that we in the space world frequently use to justify space exploration," Gorman said. "And let's face it, there's no getting away from the fact that a red sports car is all about boys and their toys. The car is a signifier of wealth and masculinity. We've been trying so hard to leave behind the era where the archetypal astronaut was an elite white male, and we've just stepped right back into it."

"space for all humanity" = and worried about boy toys. Where the F___ is NASA and Gorman when it comes to US military killing little brown people using NASA satellites for only about 20 years now. Afghanistan, Iraq and all over the middle east (even US citizens and their teenaged son not to mention all the women and children. Drone killings causing people to live in constant fear. Don't see them, don't hear them and in a flash your wedding party is gone. Middle East in ruins, hundreds of thousands dead. Water, sewer, power plants, hospitals, schools all destroyed. Yemen and even Africa. Militarising space - no comment - over 60 million refugees according to UN. And Gorman worries about boy toy sports cars. Give me a F_____ break.

Geez....just one more new thing added to the list of things to feel guilty about. Just sayin.
