Not sure that many people have encountered this, but it is fairly reproducible. When both of my key fobs are in the car at the same time (my wife carries hers as a passenger), about 50% of the time we will see a "Your key battery needs replacement" message. I never get that message when just one of the two keys is in the car. I believe I had this message prior to Firmware v4.2 (42), so it may be a sensor issue or something.

Anyone else seen this? I don't recall seeing it reported previously.

I've seen it even with only 1 fob, when the key is near my phone.

It goes with signal strength rather than any kind of actual fob battery monitoring. If something, like a cellphone, is blocking/interfering with the signal you'll get that message. Happens in the Prius and presumably any car with a fob.
