Also I think tire warranties count to the legal limit of 2/32", so you used 1/8th of the tread per the warranty, tracking pretty close to 50K life....choosing to replace at 4/32" for extra safety margin is just that, additional margin but not a warranty situation.

Good point, thanks for the perspective. Depending on the season I'm heading into I have no problem going down to 2/32. Living in Utah I have the advantage in this regard that there's not a whole lot of driving in the rain and thus hydroplaning, however to counter that going into the winter I potentially have to replace my tires closer to the 4/32 measurement to ensure I haven enough traction in snow.
