Picked her up yesterday. Here she is in all her glory!!

Some quick notes. Having test driven the P85D before placing my order for the 70D, I was very skeptical about the car's acceleration. I mean I tried the very best and had never driven the 70D (no demo models at the time of purchase) so I had no idea what to expect. My decision to purchase the 70D over an 85D or higher was based strictly on economics. I just couldn't make the math work for anything else - at least not comfortably. Throughout the whole delivery process yesterday, I kept wanting to just pull it out and take her for a rip. I remained patient though and together with my DOP, went through the orientation process. After an hour of relearning everything that I've already come to know from the the forums, I was off.

    Wow! Holy &%$#!!!

For the record, I ride an Yamaha R1 which can do 0-60 in under 3 seconds if I can keep the front wheel down. I'm accustomed to the G-force that the bike produces and very little besides the p85D could do a number on me. I was absolutely taken aback by the 70D. It was beyond breathtaking and unexpected. Hitting the accelerator planted me aggressively into the seat as the car just took ownership of the road careening past 60/mph in no time. Fast! Yes, it's no p85d but wow it can certainely move. To all you potential buyers, don't think thrills are limited to the higher models.

Then theres the range. The day I picked it up, I had to drive approx 340km. The rated range on the 70D is 385km. I asked the DOP to ensure that my car was fully charged so I would not have to make additional stops. He happily obliged and I was off with a full tank so to speak. Now I've read all about range anxiety and had reassured myself that as long as I hovered around the speed limit, I'd be fine. Biggest challenge?? Keeping to the speed limit. The effortless passing power of the 70D brings a smile to my face just thinking about it. You mash the pedal and the car - without a peep - blows past the speed limit. Ok, I learned to tame myself but that wasn't until I had clocked over 250km on my ODO at high average speed. How did this impact my range? I don't have the w/hr numbers but I lost about 30km with my constant acceleration sprints/passes. This number is based on cross referencing the ODO readings with my rated range number when my day was concluded. Not bad. I know for a fact that if I drove this car closer to the limits with minimal passing, I'd probably do better than the EPA. But here's what got me thinking, the acceleration is exhilrating - no doubt - but if I was paired with an p85D, my range would undoubtedlly be worse. Why? Because, and as I found out, it's very difficult to not take advantage of the instant torque and passing power. Maybe I lack disipline or maybe it's all the excitment of new car that will eventually wear off. Time will tell I guess...

Sorry for the orientationof the pics. Couldn't figure outhow to correct

Nice ride Miltonian! Will you be mounting the front license plate or does that mess the visuals and aerodynamics too much. Better to beg forgiveness if pulled over I suppose...

Miltonian: Congratulations on your new Tesla. I am picking mine up today from the same service centre. You car looks beautiful. I am now more excited to get mine today. Now I have to decide where I am going to drive to as I live 15 min from the Lawrence Centre.

    Cheers

They give you the option at the SC but I opted to not have any holes drilled into the beautiful cone. They do make you sign a waiver so you can't hold them liable but apparently very few opt for it - at least in Ontario. I believe the ticket is around $100 if I get pulled over.

I know exactly how you feel! Not sure who your delivery specialist is but if it happens to be Jason, you're in super good hands.

Well, over here, an average car will do 0-60mph in 10-15s, while a good car will go to something like 6-8s. So even the former S60 would be in the same realm a very good car (and it probably wouldn't cost that much more to purchase, when counting taxes for the powerful ICE.)

So yeah. Every car tesla made has way more acceleration than needed. But acceleration is FUN ! ;-)

Btw, it was really a risky move (for your bank) from your part to have tried a P85D when you considered to buy a 70D !

Yours might actually have it! I think those that started production on or before May 20th may be equipped. LTE makes a noticable difference in the radio and map rendering. I know this because I paired my phone and noticed it was quicker.

Big risk indeed lol. I actually had nightmares about the car being too slow but it exceeded my expectations :)

White with pano always looks stunning. Wow, congrats!

I just want to correct a few misperceptions:

"Make the math work"? Huh? What new theory did this come from? Where is that required??? And comfort is something you sit in. :)

I would say about lacking discipline, "You will be assimilated. Resistance is futile."

I would say about excitement wearing off... NAH!

Nice shots, thanks! I have a little concern about black seats/dash/pano and white alcantara/body, but your photos reassure me that this will work. Might be hard to find this combo in a sales center. You like it fine?

Looks much better in person! Contrast is very easy on the eyes. I had no idea how the textile seats would look until I got the car as the SC didn't have one to show intially. To my surprise, they actually turned out to be pretty comfortable and look great.

I think I have both of you beat. One week and a day, and I have 900 miles on it.

    Challenge Accepted!

I have a few trips planned, I'm thinking I'll hit 2k-3k miles before the car turns 1 month old...
