The battery & charging forum will have a lot to discuss! There have been huge debates about whether we're seeing pack imbalance or algorithm problems, especially for those with 40kWh packs who can't do a 100% range charge. Really interested to start seeing some before/after 90% and 100% range estimates!

You've probably heard the apocryphal story of the guy who bought a car and returned it the next day because it wouldn't do 120 mph, as promised. The dealer apologizes profusely and says that there must have been something wrong with the car; takes it back, makes a few adjustments, and gives it to the customer. The customer is delighted--he takes a test drive and now the car can easily top 130. Of course, all that changed was the speedometer calibration...


Not saying. Just saying. Since there's no way of knowing what the algorithm is, and since the algorithm appears to change with some regularity, it's pretty hard to get exercised about lost capacity...which should be both calming and a little worrisome. Ultimately, as these cars age out of warranty and move into the secondary market, someone is going to have to develop an objective and consistent measure of battery capacity.

And maybe disables the limiter.
 
I suspect the service center is accurate in what it's saying: the USB key (or download, or whatever) that has the new firmware has not been distributed to the service centers and green flagged for installation by them.

The distinction being: greenlighted at service centers is different from OTA release. I believe that's always been the case for Model S.

None of this implies service centers being "late to know".
