Firmware 7.1

One scenario it doesn't seem to do - When you're in your garage and activate it, it doesn't seem to open the garage to back out. It backs up until it sees the garage door, and stops and shuts down.

Am I missing something? If the garage door is open, it works fine.

It works great opening the door from outside, going fully into the space (avoids the bikes nicely), and then closing the door behind itself.

I don't know what I'm looking for, but I'm happy to go take a picture for you. I'll do it now.

Right, so Tesla has not fixed the climate UI in 7.1. Dang. So much for Elon's touted UI improvements.

For those who forgot that we used to have status indicators and what that looked like in 6.x see below (Cyclone's image):

My brain is operating at less the peak efficiency today. Can someone give me a real world example of what makes this version of Summon useful? I get that people might have extremely tight garages or whatever. But for most of us, what does this help with? I want to get excited but so far I'm not.

@zzzdoc: Earlier in this thread someone posted a video of their S sitting inside the garage with the door closed. He initiated the Summons function and the car started to back up just a bit, stopped because the garage door was closed, and then the car opened the garage door and once it was fully opened backed out into the driveway. The voiceover narration said the car opened the garage door, he didn't do it.

Hmmm...@zzzdoc, you must be a sleep specialist. ;-)

Definitely in one video I just watched, the car was in the garage with door closed. Told it to summon out and it started reversing towards the door, noticed it, then stopped and opened door, timed it pretty well then started reversing again to finish the summoning act...

You might need to enable auto homelink for the car to be able to automatically open and close the garage door.

I think most of the release has some nice fixes/tweaks in it, but the summon feature overall is just the item that isn't overall that useful but will get some buzz/media at least. Plus they can now shut up a number of people that complain(ed) about that sentence that was on the website stating you'll be able to summon your MS being fulfilled finally.

Tight spaces, and I think for folks that perhaps want to back-in and are not so skilled at reversing, this could be a boon. For me personally, it appears interesting tech that will gain interest and press, but I likely won't make much use of this initial iteration except to show off to friends and family.

Thanks. It def. sounds like there are cool features and fixes in this release. I wanted to see if I was missing something obvious about Summon. I'm looking forward to the auto/open close on the garage door and the refinements to AP Lanekeeping. Things I use every day so improvements will be welcomed!

Majerus--

Just watched your videos. Like the other video posted, which was not attributed to an owner here, so I couldn't ask, I noticed the mirrors remained folded. So what I'd like to ask you is if you have auto-fold mirrors enabled or not. If you have them disabled, and your mirrors were just folded when you shot the video, then there is no change in behavior in this version of the firmware. However, if you have auto-fold mirrors enabled, then the Tesla programmers went the extra step, and got the auto-park feature right, because the car starts up, but the mirrors remain folded. This makes sense, since the car wouldn't be using them, and the extra space would just make maneuvering more difficult.

As an aside, now that Tesla has provided the option of an "auto open" and "auto close" feature for the Homelink buttons, I'm planning on writing to them again, and suggesting an additional option of connecting a mirror-fold and mirror-unfold to the same homelink button.

YES, mirrors need to be GPS linked so they auto-fold when you pull in. Of course, great progress on the other items, not even backward progress IMO; all forward for a change.

That was certainly a risky click.....

Don't discount the situation with people who have to park in tiny garages. Our garage is so small that when Model S is parked in there you can barely only open the driver's side door. Being able to have the car park itself is a huge benefit to us.

My only hope is that the software does not balk at the tight tolerances and refuse to park the car. We know we can fit a Model S in the garage and I hope the sensors have sufficient resolution to get close to the sides of the garage and park itself. Even for people who have space in their garage, if they have a bunch of things to load in the car it might be easier to do that in their driveway.

This is an extremely useful feature IMMHO. I just hope they designed it to work with tight tolerances as that's when this is the most useful.

Perpendicular auto park.

I have spent the past hour trying this new functionality on my P85D. I live in a condo with garage spaces below. Each space is separated by a 1 1/2 sq foot concrete post. The spaces are roomy, however the garage is not that wide, and I have never backed my car in to prevent damage.

Hopefully some of you can give us more tips to improve the relibality to get the 'P' to display.

My experiences:

Driving about 7 mph past my spot the 'P' 'may' come on, indicating that it sees my assigned parking space. I stop, put the car in park and the main screen shows me the parking space and a button to 'CONTINUE'.

My first attemp at this resulted in me aborting as I was sure my car was going into the concrete post. When I finally had enough courage, I found that the auto park software performs as advertised and after several forward and back movements, parked perfectly in the center of my spot. This is really a neat feature, however, it takes somewhat longer than manually parking the car.

Now, hopefully we can share how to increase the reliability of having the 'P' display. I'm all ears for any tips on this.

Thank you Tesla!

I drove around a little this morning trying to mess with it and found that it only works if there is a parking spot surrounded by obstacles on all sides.

Thought i'd put up a video as well of it parking itself backing up.
Great video as it also shows the front wheels turning to balance clearance on both sides. Have you tried with the garage door closed to see if Homelink will open and close it?

This will get better IMO as Tesla gathers performance data on successful parking maneuvers and the corresponding sensor data.

I saw that video. And I do have auto homelink enabled for this garage door. It works great going into the garage, however (and I've tried this multiple times) when backing out of a garage with the door closed, it just starts backing up, notices the door is there, and shuts down.

I think it's a bug.
