First boatload of M3 to Europe

Assuming that Tesla has already started production of the European Model 3 version it would be awesome to track their first delivery to Europe. It is easy to track a vessel online as long as the vessel name and shipping port is known. Not sure though who’d be able to provide that hint. Maybe we have insiders here in this forum who’d be able to help. Can’t wait to see the cars arrive and drive on European roads.

The Hoegh Target and the Hoegh Trigger of the shipping company Höegh Autoliners are the largest motor carriers in the world. Cover of 71,400 square meters and a load capacity of 8,500 vehicles. They are the largest Pure Car and Truck Carrier (PCTC) in the world. It's interesant!!

The port of Zeebrugge in Belgium is the destination. From there the cars will go to several countries, definitely not to all European countries. A couple of Model 3’s are currently testing the charging infrastructure in The Netherlands. Tesla expects to start the first deliveries in The Netherlands in Feb. The question: did they start producing M3’s for the European market? Shipping takes approx. 3 weeks.

Almost 10k VINs for Europe have been created already within the past few days. When Tesla started Dual-Motor production last June accordingly VINs were created without much leadtime either. Starting early in the quarter makes also a lot of sense to ensure that the deliveries count into Q1-2019. March shipments to EU will very likely be intransit on 31st March and hence shift into the subsequent quarter which at this point in time is something that Tesla tries to avoid.
Considering these huge carriers mentioned above, the M3 cars will probably ship together with MS and MX cars, maybe even with other US brands so it is rather unlikely we will see a vessel arriving exclusively loaded with M3s.

Hmm, the Hoegh Target is on it's way to Fremantle, estimated arrival on the 13th of January, then onwards to Luanda, Tema, Dakar, Veracruz, Freeport Tx, Jacksonville, Brunswick, Baltimore, Wilmington and New York on the 2nd of March.
The Trigger is going to Durban on the 12th, then Fremantle, Melbourne, Port Kembla and Incheon on Feb 8th.
So I doubt either vessel is involved in this. There's plenty of others though, and Zeebrugge is a very popular port for roll-on roll-off cargo. Without knowing the origin port it's hard to figure out likely candidate vessels.

You can see the expected arrivals for the next few days here, although sadly not very far in advance: https://www.marinetraffic.com/en/da...|begins|ZEEBRUGGE|recognized_next_port_in=265

Here's a contact form for the port, though they will most likely not share any voyage information with you: ROLL-ON ROLL-OFF

Those are some WTF numbers. Gotta Google these boats. Wonder if they featured them in science channels mega ships show.

There have been similar threads in the past when Tesla started to ship MS and MX over to Europe. Not sure whether it is just claims as it is all unofficial information...

Claim 1: Tesla ships their cars through the port of Houston. I know that the freight rates to Europe are pretty cheap so that would make sense.
Claim 2: First the cars go on a train to New York (10 days) and from there onwards to the Netherlands.

Found a thread from 2015 where people seem to have figured out how to track their car on its journey to EU by using the assigned VIN...
Track your Tesla while it's on the boat

The Glovis Captain is now docking at Pier 80 in San Francisco where Tesla is reportedly staging vehicles for shipping. No idea how fast they will be loading but theoretically it can be done in a few hours. The remaining question is whether the Glovis Captain will head to Europe or China. I'm pretty confident the first boatloads will go to Europe.

There are a bunch of car carriers from asian departure points heading to tacoma, portland and the likes. When emptied I guess some of them will head down to San Francisco. From now on we should see car carriers landing at Pier 80 once or twice a week. Does anybody live close by? :)
