First Impressions: Model Y Performance

Just picked up 2022 Model Y Performance that I ordered in November 2021, when I sold my 2021 Model Y LR for $8000 more than I paid for it after one year and 17,000 miles.
I have had a Model Y, 3, S and X and I find the Model Y to be the greatest "Value" of all Tesla vehicles.

I also chose the Y because I like to slide out of the vehicle and not boost myself up, like in the S and 3 which, for me, are just too low.

After adapting to the new software. "How do I open my damn glove box? and Where do I increase the autopilot speed?" Thank you GOOGLE for the answers. They certainly weren't in all of the instructional videos I watched.

I must say the ride was less rough than I expected having come from an older Model S. The Performance version is peppy and plenty for me. I don't need to waste $60k more to gain 1 second on the 0 to 60. I have had a Model X Raven and punched that ticket.

I am happy to report that I received the Ryzen Chip, the heat pump, and the coveted Michelin All-Season tires.
I am disappointed to report that the rear double-pane insulated windows are no longer present.

PERFECT delivery with no issues and so far so with only 227 miles, I couldn't be more pleased.

The pickup process was smoother than I expected and Elana did a great job assisting me in walking down the checklist. My friend who owns my first Tesla (Tessie 1) took me to the appointment. There were some shrubs on the lower front bumper which Elana was able to quickly remove. A PERFECT delivery.

First impressions summary:
Fast and peppy and the 0-60 in 3.5 is more than I need (Even though I have had a Model X Raven with a 0-60 of 2.6 that could get me into trouble)

AMD Ryzen, laminate windows up front, heat pump, and the coveted Michelin All-Season tires on board.

Disappointed that they dropped the laminate on the rear windows.

The ride was less stiff and bumpy than I expected and that's coming from a 2014 Model S that glides along the road.

Handling is excellent.

Quiet as I would expect. Will add a rear compartment divider to improve that even more.

Added storage cubbies that slide and I highly recommend them.

It is going to take some time to get used to the new software update. I will dive deeper into the menu as time permits.

Tessie 7 will get its PPF on Jun 14 and have its mud flaps installed then as well as a carbon fiber application over the glaring white dash to tone it done. I am not a carbon fiber fan (like some who probably have carbon fiber underwear), but at least it will match the spoiler. The glaring white is noticeably distracting and near intolerable.

The phone charger space is phenomenal and even charges through the case. YES! I can now watch Waze without having to hold it between my legs.

Also had Pirelli P Zero tires. No clue if that's good or bad.

I have used STEK Dynoshiled on all of my Teslas for PPF put on locally in Melbourne FL by Pain Pro for only $1750 for front to mirrors. The final coat is ceramic so you get the best of both worlds. My friend who bought my first Tesla just took it off the hood after 8 years and the hood is just like factory paint.

You've saved me and others a great deal of time and effort by sharing what your experience has shown works best. I've ordered several of your accessory suggestions already, including the white dash cover. I wasn't even aware of the white dash as an interior eyesore needing a solution!

Just an installation note on the beautiful dash cover. I moved from installing it and admiring it, to working on the rear cargo cover. When I came back to the front later, I noticed that the new cover was loosening. Whoah! I found that the AC was blowing full bore on the new cover installation and anyone who knows 5th-grade science knows what that does to the sticky on the back of the plastic panel. I readily turned off the air, put some heat and weight on it, and all was not lost. The dash still looks great. Just be careful to turn off the air and let the installation settle overnight in the hot garage. Not a bit of glare. NONE. NADA! BTW, I didn't notice any airflow change with this installation. I just adjusted it to where I needed it. The matte finish is truly fingerprint free. Mine was $47.99 from Amazon

Now, if you are one of those carbon fiber junkies (the ones with carbon fiber underwear), you might look at the complete dash replacement (OEM) from Fusion Motor Sports with real carbon fiber, whatever that is. It's only $900 and it gives you the opportunity to rip off your dash and add some new squeaks and rattles to accompany your installation for no extra charge.

I didn't see the side windows in this video, which is where the super white cast the greatest glare.

I too am impressed with the quality of my 2022 Y. Much better than my 2020 Y. For one, the paint matches….and the body panels line up perfectly. Dig the “updated” interior and a wireless charger that works. Heated steering wheel is nice too (had these on my prior 3 Volvos). Even on 19’s, it’s still a bit harsh ride. Please offer air suspension for like a $2,000 option, and this would knock of out of the park. Having had air ride Model S’s as loaners(and on my xc90 and 60) it would be a welcome option. Congrats on the new ride!

Telsa Screen protector

Be careful with the installation. I specifically got this one because of the installation guide. (Plastic)
Well, toss that one. Installation is a few diagrams that are not very clear.

The guide was rather worthless installing it crooked each time.

Finally, my wife saved the day and the screen, removing completely and manually installing it. Perfecto. All good. Great quality. Toss the plastic installer piece.

I like the fact that it cuts glare. I didn't see any significant diminution of clarity, as sometimes reported. Sensitivity is great.

DYNOshield Hydrophobic Paint Protection Film | STEK USA Highly recommended. Really improves the look and value of your car. Very good protection from stone chips, bird droppings, and road damage. Makes it easier to wash and keep clean. Protects from swirling from car washes. Use it with Chemical Guys product "Wet" for the best shine I have ever seen. I usually get the front, hood, and front qtr panels done for about $1750. You can also get the sides and rear done to protect them from keying and other damage. You have put big money into your Tesla. It's worth protecting. I like the fact that with DYNOshield you get PPF and Ceramic in one product for a lot less $$ than XPEL, 3M, and some of the other name brands.

PPF will have ZERO impact on the value of your car. I buy and sell a lot of cars and nobody cares about stone chips, especially if you trade to a dealer. The buyers that spends thousands on it are just trying to justify it.

Pirelli P Zeros are excellent tires. Mine went 43K miles. Check the tread depth though. I think we all get introductory tires with less tread.

And an alarm system on your house may have zero impact on resale until someone attempts to break into your house. And regular check-ups at your doctor may have zero impact on your health until they identify early cancer. And washing your car periodically may have zero impact on resale. Ok.

My 2019 Model X was keyed from front to back at a local Sam's (before Sentry mode). My detailer just peeled off the damaged PPF and replaced it with new. $850 and the insurance gladly covered it. The dealers I have dealt with in the past will look for anything to ding you in trade in price. They will even deduct for road rash on your wheels. They deducted $1000 for road rash. I came back with a plus $1000 for PPF and we had a deal.

To each their own. We all make choices. I have seen the DIY jobs. You can put in your own alarm system and be your own doctor too. Good luck with those.

When told by the doctor that he had a blockage accumulating in his heart and should consider surgery, he said, "Hell no, I'm not going to allow them to splay me open like a grocery store chicken." Three months later attended his funeral. Simple choices. I laugh when I see the ads about clogged gutters.
One way to avoid clogged gutters is to not have them. I have two small diverters on the front and back of the house, and have never had gutters and never had a problem. Simple choices. I respect that you are making a simple choice and hopefully you respect those who choose to PPF.

Some who invest a lot of money in a nice vehicle are willing to spend a few extra dollars to protect it professionally. My installer charges $1750 and in the six Teslas I have sold, the PPF was always a positive factor, not to mention how easy it is to keep clean. I was selling my 2021 Model X and asking $89500. The engineer who bought it said it was the cleanest used car he had ever seen. He wrote a check for $90,000. I didn't object. PPF had an influence and of course my wife got the $500 becasue she had detailed it. It's called pride of ownership. Priceless.

I take it the wet is PPF friendly? May have to give it a try on our MX. I'm always open to ideas. If I'm wanting to bust out the best deep shine, I've been using this product on the vehicle with awesome results. The MX is full PPF.

I think you will find that Dynoshield is a better product and at about 1/3 less cost.
