Got my screen replaced today

Asked the tech why this problem pop up around the same time in so many cars

He told me it is heat related. The heat wave this summer broke many records. The LCD screen is simply not ready for this kind of temperature consistently

Took an hour to swap the screen. Super clean job. No issue

MCU1 only for my MCU1

With the new screen, the MCU is a lot more responsive, but of course not at MCU2 level

Overall, I am very happy with their work
Sorry. Just realized I posted this in a wrong threat

Me impatient for V9...

Re: Mirrors - I’m just going to leave this here.

I made this change a few years ago and while it took a little getting used to it is much safer and essentially eliminates blind spots.
It always confounds me when people talk about the "blind spot warning" or lack thereof in the MS. There is no blind spot if you learn to adjust your mirrors properly.

I'm one of those old dogs who drove for 47 years with mirrors adjusted incorrectly, so I know it can be done. It is incredible how much more relaxing it is to drive when you KNOW you can glance in the rear view mirror, glance in the side view mirror, and change lanes knowing there is not a vehicle there, rather than just hoping that is the case.

Just out of curiosity... why do so many people love having their backup cam on all the time? I remember when I test drove the S it was shown to me with excitement by the delivery specialist and I was like “meh.” Don’t get me wrong I love it... but only when I’m backing up. I find it terribly distracting to have it on when I’m driving forward.

You never know when photo opportunities like this are going to pop up..

Some AP 1 cars are under 2 years old. Mine is 2 years old this month.

I think some people forget that part! My AP1 is a refresh from the last week of June 2016. A car OS shouldn't go 'obsolete' faster than phone OS.

I definitely understand not getting all the new features that AP2/AP2.5/etc might get, but continuing to support AP1 cars with new updates is hugely appreciated by those who got in right at the end of the line.

You will no doubt get an update to the new UI and non-Autopilot features. Non-AP cars still get these updates. The only thing you shouldn’t expect is major autopilot updates for AP1.

OK, you are stopped at a light, with someone in front of you and cars beside you. How does knowing that someone is going to rear end you help mitigate the situation?

When a human senses they're about to be hit/impacted, they automatically tension their muscles which significantly reduces energy absorption and impact injury severity. A blind impact can be much more devastating.

However, I think having the rear cam visible is more useful when merging in traffic, as you have a wider field of view vs. your rear view mirror; still use your properly (SAE) adjusted side view mirrors for blind spots.

Try it for a while, it will become less of a distraction and more of a benefit...
