First time using schedule, car won't run initially

You haven't mentioned this, but you really do need to spend some time with the manual. There are a LOT of customization settings with the car, as well as differences in how to operate it vs an ICE car. At the very least, watch the various videos that Tesla has on their website.

One thing to be aware of re: the 'sudden acceleration'. On another thread where someone complained about this, it turned out that he was not waiting for the car to power up fully before pushing down on the right stalk to engage Drive. He would impatiently push down once then again in succession to try to get Drive to engage, which in turn may have engaged cruise control. So tell your wife to just wait until all of the warning lights in the left-hand column disappear, then the car is ready to drive. Push the brake pedal, wait for a moment, then put into Drive.

She will love it soon.
