The stats on those soapbubble cars must be poor indeed for them to be in such bright colours and shown with all sorts of sexy but without any real stat info :D

Why is every other electric car ugly? Know that Tesla has set the bar, can other manufacturers do better?

    Either:
    - Mid-range city car so box for practicality
    - Conversion of a volume-selling ICEV

If you were to include mongrels my wife thinks her Volt is gorgeous.

This is the usual moronic comparison that the media produces. Yeah, the Fiat is going to eat Tesla's lunch, just like the ICE Fiats eat ICE BMWs' lunches. Utterly stupid, but that's our media today.

The unspoken premise of these type articles is that there is a limited group of people interested in electric cars and by definition they will cannibalize each other rather than taking away ICE sales...sigh...I am someone who would never buy an EV just cause it's electric, rather because it's just better.

Ugly little econoboxes and vaporware concept cars are going to kill Tesla? Seriously?

"Want to" does not equal "going to"!

Yeah, it seems a normal functioning brain is not one of the requirements to work for Bloomberg TV. There’s just no way that guy got that job on merits alone.

    Amazing.

Why are hybrids and plug-in hybrids constantly lumped in with BEVs ?

When Model E becomes available at the range and price point expected, these upcoming EVs will really have to distinguish themselves.

The reporter has always been a skeptic of Tesla. We've seen him on many "roundtable" news pieces being the skeptic. I don't think he's an active naysayer, just actively skeptical.

To anyone knowledgeable of the cars the comparison is laughable.

It would be so sweet if Model S had Lambo doors.

I knew from reading comments that it was going to be Matt Miller in the video (I read through the comments here before watching it). The guy has no idea.

How can he possibly get away with saying the Model S battery pack costs $50k?! Also, the price of a Model S is $100k? Only if you option up a P85 with Tech package and Air Suspension (US pricing, of course). A base model i8 doesn't hold a candle to a fully decked out P85+. The only thing going for the i8 is the look, which is quite a subjective matter.....

No need to go into the Hydrogen false economy debate here as it's covered in other threads, but the look of the Toyota certainly won't do it any favours either.

@Moollar Agreed, he should be comparing those low end cars with small range to a 60. What horrible reporting.

Why do people continue to call hydrogen fuel cell vehicles "electric"?

(The Toyota FCV in the video.)

Because they are electric. They have an electric motor which propels the wheels.
In a fuel cell vehicle, the electricity is generated by the fuel cell, buffered in a battery and then used by the motor.
In a battery electric, the electricity is simply stored in a battery pack.

At least, that is how I understand it.

That is a disservice to skeptics. Real skeptics have an open mind.

Weird. By this definition you can put any generator you like in the vehicle (including nuclear...hm) and call it electric as long as some portion of the drivetrain is electric.

"Here you can charge the A3 E-Tron from this supercharger(...)in two and a half hours" Really? A "supercharger" that gives you 31 miles of range in 2.5 hours... Really?

Yah, the loose use of "supercharger" didn't come across as innocent to me either.

This is like comparing different models of a "YUGO" to an elite (TESLA)

Yugo GV - Cars That Deserved to Die - Popular Mechanics

Only pseudo comparison is BMW i8, but then again it is a hybrid with a much higher price tag which boasts of 95 miles per gallon.

This media report is nothing more than Desires ignoring factual reality as such has produced stupidity.
