Flat tire

Arrived up North at the homestead and next day found a flat tire.

Far from Mobile Service and it was a side wall penetration so new tire was needed. Only 6000 km on tires so hopefully replacing just the one will work out. And luckily a local dealer even had one in stock. (And we had a second car, car jack, torque wrench, etc.)

But what if we were on the road and didn't have all that? Any recommendations for a temporary repair kit, just to get us to the nearest town/garage/hotel?

Previous car had a pump and goo kit but I never had to use it in 10 years.

...what if we were on the road and didn't have all that?...

Tesla sells tire sealant can but I am not sure how well it does with the anti-noise foam linings inside your tires. The foam might drink up all the liquids!

If you plan to do it yourself, you could get a doughnut kit made by a third party but of course, that would take some space in your car.

If space is no problem, maybe you can ask Service Center to buy you a full-size tire/wheel with TPMS and use it as a spare (an identical 5th tire for your car). Of course, you still need to get other accessories as you said: lug wrench, car jack, torque wrench, 12V portable pump...

The pump that I prefer has an automatic shutoff feature so I don't have to time and stare at the dial and manually shut it off myself.

Thanks, we have Michelin CrossClimates so no foam, I think. I'll contact Tesla for the goo and look around for a small pump. Carrying a HD jack, wrench and spare tire around ... ugh. Don't know if I'll go that far.

We're far North of the Barrie Service center, but I suppose I could have asked Tesla Service to get the car towed to the tire place. If it happens again, somewhere on the road, and the goo+pump doesn't work, that might be the only option, if there's cell service.
Why didn’t you use the roadside assistance from your app Tesla will either get you a spare or get you towed they are really good about this.
Just checked and I think Roadside Assistance is only good for 80kms from a Service Center. We're farther than that, so a tow (non-free) would have been required.

Apparently Tesla's tire repair kit (pump+goo) was temporarily discontinued last Fall, but still hasn't made it back.

Looks like there's some third-party stuff available now tho. Like "Slime" at CanTire; guess I'll get that.

I think you can still buy the sealant separately without the pump:

The "sealant" does nothing for you for a sidewall puncture. I know from experience. Had a sidewall puncture 3 years ago in the middle of nowhere in Pennsylvania. Even sketchy cell phone reception. Had the Tesla pump and slime kit on board but it would not hold. Roadside contractor was 150km away and could not help. Called my good friend George and he put one of his winter tires in his Tesla and offered to rescue me. This involved a 200km drive from Hamilton and crossing the border. We decided to meet at the Salamanca Supercharger. I was able to get my car flat bed towed there using AAA. By a miracle of timing we met up within 5 minutes of each others arrival. I had an electric jack on board including a correct socket, breaker bar and torque wrench. We changed the tire and were off to Canada after a good dinner at the Casino.
Conclusion:
- the slime stuff does not help for sidewall puncture
- have a CAA membership
- have a good helpful Tesla friend
