For mechanical reasons, do I have to replace tires in pairs or fours?

Tesla Forum Brain Trust-

2016 Model X. One tire is damaged beyond repair. Other three tires have enough tread depth on them to last one or two more years so I don't desire to change the other tires unless I have to.

Can I replace just this ONE bad tire without damaging the drive/motor system(s)? I'm assuming I can change just the one tire since this isn't a conventional AWD "mechanical" type system where one tire spinning slightly slower than the others could cause mechanical problems with the AWD system.

I called the Tesla tech support line. She said she wasn't 100% sure but was pretty sure I could just change the one bad tire without damaging the AWD system. She tried to connect me with one the local Tesla Service Centers to get a more definitive answer, but the three service centers near me kinda suck as they don't answer the phone nor return voicemails or texts.

Thanks!
