From the beginning when we considered the idea of selling & I created this thread back last fall we didn’t need to sell the car. We drove a Y & liked it but not enough to have a strong desire to sell our S to get a Y. A Y with a trailer hitch, FSD, and no other options would cost us about $66k including sales tax & license plates. Then we’d spend extra for PPF, rubber floor mats for winter, extra rims with winter tires, etc. And the main benefit would be having a car that’s under warranty. Because overall the pros & cons of the Y vs keeping our S basically offset themselves. The Y wouldn't have a battery heater, an opening sunroof, the HEPA filter, heated wiper blades, Homelink, control via steering wheel of HVAC etc. But the Y would have a trailer hitch, a larger rear seat, easier in/out access due to higher ride height, better cargo compartments, more range, and the heat pump. All those pros/cons basically offset themselves to us. The Y would also cost more for license plates each year but less for insurance. And we’d have to pay for supercharging but it would be faster. So overall the only real benefit to the Y that isn’t offset but losing something the S has is the warranty & a longer range. And we put a maximum value on the warranty & range of about $10-12k. So if the S selling price is more than $10k less than the Y price it’s too much of a difference. And then it’s more complicated because over the last few months we’ve spent $1600+ with tax for MCU2 & $1800 for winter tires/extra rims/TPMS. And so that furthers moves us away from selling the S because we’ve made investments in keeping it. At this point I should maybe just say that the car is no longer for sale because otherwise someone could end up wasting time when the price we’re looking for isn’t realistic... So unless you're willing to offer the original asking price we aren't interested in selling. We'll happily keep our 2016 S with FSD & free unlimited supercharging for many more years.
