Ford announced a plan Tuesday to help electrify fleets of older vehicles with a new crate motor.

Dubbed the “Eluminator e-crate motor,” Part No. M-9000-MACH-E, is now available at authorized Ford parts warehouse dealers or online at Ford Performance Parts. The Eluminator retails at $3,900 and is “targeted for builders looking for a transverse-oriented powertrain to electrify a range of vehicles from modern to vintage cars, trucks and SUVs,” Ford said in a release.

Each Eluminator e-crate motor produces 281 horsepower and 317 lb.-ft. of torque and is street-legal in all 50 states.

To show off the new e-crate motor, Ford built a 1978 F-100 concept pickup that uses two of the electric motors shared with the 2021 Mustang Mach-E GT Performance Edition. The Eluminator e-crate motor is based on the Mustang Mach-E GT’s...

Very nice but what about for other vehicles, like Chevrolet Volt owners who want to go 100% electric? That would be really nice, but you'd have to take out the engine and may be replace it with a liquid-cooled battery pack extension. The Chevrolet Volt already has an electric motor since it's a plug-in hybrid.

Definitely just the motor, but this is pretty cool! I mean, it looks good for Ford and they don’t have to deal with the speed controllers, batteries, etc. for a builder/maker/tinkerer, it’s a nice start to electrifying a vehicle. Peo have been making electric cars for decades, but using forklift motors, etc. This is, at least, a motor that will be known to more people, specs and manuals and perhaps other parts of the drivetrain coming in the future.
It Lao helps Ford amortize more of their electric vehicle development, sidestepping many consumer issues (where to charge? I have a coolant leak, etc.)
As a crate motor, available to many, in perpetuity or a few decades, maybe? There will grow a cottage industry of aftermarket parts to utilize this. And if people are electrifying their project cars with a Ford motor, it may engender more loyalty to Ford in the future/for future vehicle purchases.

"Transverse" as in mounted crosswise under the hood with one transaxle shaft coupled to the driveshaft, or else (if you keep the trans) coupled to the input shaft.

Does Ford offer a 'controller' or 'open inverter' that is not stuffed with proprietary software costing mucho diniero? We can get our own battery & BMS thank you.

No recent replies here so Ford mustve crapped out of this whole deal. "Page not found" LOL as expected . . .
