"Ford plans to invest $4.5 billion in electric vehicle production by 2020, and the company said it will produce 13 new electric vehicles, including a Mustang, an F-150, police cars, and a Transit Custom van."

"Ford described seven of the 13 upcoming EVs..."

Ford: We’re canceling $1.6B Mexico facility, investing in electric and US plant

13 models? Wow. Eclipses Tesla. We'll see how many are actually made in quantity. Hopefully lots!

Encouraging, but only one of the 7 announced today is full on BEV, the rest are "electrified", aka hybrid.
In general I still think the next three years will be interesting in terms of EV growth. Good times.

Ford announced only one EV. The rest are conventional hybrids. Baby steps...

Yeah, basically Ford just admitted that they've done essentially nothing on EVs since Magna presented them with a Focus EV conversion a few years ago. But they're going to start Real Soon Now(tm).

Fields seems like a decent manager, but... Just not getting any sense of vision from this. Rearguard action.

Amazing how many wonderful things are supposed to happen in 2020. I wonder how many of them they think we'll forget by then?

Seriously, only one actual EV?! Useless. I *was* excited enough to start this thread.

So basically Ford is going to make an Escape EV and milk the rest for publicity. Fits their entire corporate ethos of leading from behind.

Essentially what Ford said is they're going to make a car that competes with the Bolt EV by 2020. Nice, but nothing revolutionary.
