FYI, the DC charger at the CalTech lot was behaving strangely yesterday. I used it to charge my Bolt EV a few months ago but yesterday it started the charge normally and then after a few seconds it ended with “charge complete” even though my battery was at 36%. A second attempt yielded the same result.
The 2019 Volt now has an optional “7.2 kW” AC charger versus the default “3.6 kW” unit. They never state this as amperage but they do state it as being twice the power.
Looks like the free ride is coming to an end soon, George. It will be interesting to see how this affects useage. Regardless, still the best EVSE installation around!
Swung by - looks like they have about a dozen Tesla chargers installed! Did a quick test and everything worked great including 72A charging. I imagine soon they will be connected to Powerflex app for billing.
Just FYI, the Caltech garage at 341 S. Wilson has been approved for: 3 DCFC's, 8 Tesla destination chargers, and 55 L2 chargers. Not sure if Powerflex is building that out. @MITE46 might know. RT
are the chargers at Caltech only for staff and students? or open to the public? Also, Caltech has several parking structures, which lot is the one with Tesla chargers? Than you.
I believe it is public even though the PlugShare page marks it as “restricted”. I have charged there several times. It’s a little hard to find the first time because it is tucked in from the street and is an underground parking garage. Caltech Parking Garage #3 1248 E. 341 S. Wilson is the garage that is in the process of being upgraded with EV infrastructure. Much easier access, but construction hasn't started yet. RT
Thank you! I pass by there all the time but I didn't know which lot it was. I guess we just have to pay for parking.
Construction for N Wilson garage is starting 9/16, should be done by 10/31. It will be (4) 50kW DC FC + (44) 32A J1772 + (10) 80A Tesla HPWC! I want to thank everyone for their contributions on this thread, its been an amazing journey from our first project at Caltech to be now deploying some of the largest EV charging projects!
