Fremont Delivery 9/20

Got my MX 100D today. Can't say that I'm satisfied since the experience was definitely worse than when I got the MS 70D in 2015.

First off, delivery was delayed by a couple of days - which is okay. But the delivery specialist didn't call me even once until I got a hold of her yesterday to finalize the payment and sign the purchase agreement.

Got there at 1pm and was directed to my car. The rep didn't show up for another 15-20 minutes so I just inspected the car myself. Exterior looked okay with some minor misalignment. Next, I opened all the doors. Window/door seals are kinda rough and I'll probably have to trim it a little bit. Then the problem came. I sat in the car and stepped on the brake. All doors closed except for the trunk. It's as if something was blocking it when it's about to completely close. Tried a few times and only got it to close once. I opened all the doors again and noticed something missing at the door latch of the FWDs. One didn't have the cover. The other had the cover popped off.

When the rep finally came and noted the problems, he found another guy to check it and also couldn't close the trunk. They took the car back to the shop and somehow the trunk door started to close every time (knock on wood). Apparently they didn't have the missing latch cover so I'll have to stop by the repair center when they get the parts.

Okay, all is well, right? Not so fast, when I started to drive home, I found that the windshield camera cover isn't fully attached to the windshield. I can even see the wires from the side. Well, one more thing to fix when I stop by the repair center later on.

Just not a smooth experience overall.

My goodness. I'm so fed up with Tesla that if they tried to give us that car (we expect delivery of 100D next week after lemon buy back) I would not accept it. Sorry to see this, it is so depressing that they cant get their QC act together after so many years....

there's a thread somewhere on that weld spot, apparently the crack is not the metal itself but some kind of sealant. it still looks very unfinished, even if not structural. really strange that they haven't found a better way to address that seam after all this time.

are those paint chips where the seam is? i would definitely have them fix that too. such a shame on your delivery day, but hopefully it all gets resolved very quickly!

There's no paint chip. It's just the reflection from the sun. Basically, everything looks fine from the outside if you don't open the doors. But you'll see a few ugly welding jobs when you open them.

Here's the closeup. The frame is just molded that way. Was it not like this before?

Discussed in Falcon Door destroys paint there was always a bumper on the door but it did not meet the frame and instead the adjacent plastic rubbed off paint. Early fixes that look like yours with the new flat bumper stop also had problems with paint scratching off on the opposite edge on the B pillar so watch for that.

It would be nice if Tesla had better quality control at the factory. It seems that the consumer is expected to inspect for defects and correct them at the service center.

My assumption is that there really is no QC at the factory because that just slows down production/delivery, which directly impacts their quarterly numbers. So they defer all issues to their service department after delivery.

This is contrast to established car makers that

This is like the fourth bad delivery/quality X I have read on forums last few days ..I thought all the X issues were worked out when I got my 2018 earlier this year there wasn’t any issue worth taking to service ..now a lot of these cars I’m seeing just have bad QC issues ..sorry to see this but there is another thread where the X looks worst than this :(

It's almost certainly the end of quarter rush. I've gone from excitement to dread about picking up my car next week.
