Fremont Service Center now at Kato, not at factory

Looks like the Fremont Service Center just moved to 47400 Kato (where the never ending construction on 20 supercharger stalls are), which was inevitable given how crammed factory is now. I'll probably use this soon enough, wonder if anyone had any experience yet there. Who knows, maybe the chargers will be completed soon.

Fremont-47400 Kato Road | Tesla
Just finished a 75K mile service there yesterday, no complaints. The new location has been very busy with the move transition and you might check with them regarding loaner car availability. No word on what will happen with the charging stands.

That new Tesla delivery center opened at least 3 months ago. I took delivery of my X there in late July and posted about it in another thread (can't remember which one). The main room and waiting area is huge. It could easily accomodate dozens of people. The indoors area where the new cars are kept and shown to the new owners is pretty big and can accomodate at least 20 cars, I would say. When my wife and I were there we were almost the only customers present. Lots of new cars waiting to be picked up. Here are some photos showing those areas.

Weird that does look like Kato building, but it looks like the delivery center has since permanently moved to 47623 Fremont Blvd as there are repeated reports of model 3 deliveries there. Maybe the delivery center was there temporarily?

The service center definitely moved to 47400 Kato.

Alright here's what I've gathered so far:

47623 Fremont Blvd = Delivery Center/Hub
47400 Kato = Service Center, 20 future superchargers
Factory (45500 Fremont Blvd) = Birthplace,12 current superchargers, store and of course tours.

Fremont has a weird thing where every street number begins with "4" so that makes this a little confusing, but the Fremont Blvd building and Kato building are on opposite sides of I-880, but not physically that far away, and both are probably equidistant from Factory.

Fremont seems to be using north-south block numbering that originates at 1st Avenue in Oakland, as do other communities between them, such as San Leandro and Hayward. Although in some places this numbering is superceded by numbering centered on the individual community - asumably a result of the town centers already having their own numbers before the common center of Oakland was extended outward. You can follow this on a map using the numbered streets closer to Oakland - the numbered streets extend as far as 174th Ave. which is in Castro Valley. Houses just south of that cross street are numbered in the 17400 block. Being farther away, Fremont blocks are in the 30,000s and 40,000s. If the numbered streets extended all the way to Fremont, 47400 Kato would be at the corner of Kato Rd. and 474th Avenue.

holy cow, i didn't know there was a legitimate reason for the street numbering maddness. good history lesson and makes perfect sense.

Thus, the higher the number, the safer the neighborhood, once you get sufficiently high.

In general, I like sensible systems. The above is a sensible system (keeping one numbering axis per axis). Another sensible system is the idea in LA area that streets go forever and don't change names, regardless of county, city, etc.; unfortunately, San Jose takes the opposite approach, naming every block of every road a different name; it's horrendous! Another sensible system is reducing the number of appendages and prefixes for roads; getting rid of "Ave", "St", "NW", "NE", "N", "S", etc; if any of those are used, then I prefer those systems that at least make a sensible use of them (such as NYC which has St and Ave mean which axis it is on (Ave is Y and St is X)). Another sensible system is to use first letters correspond to numbers in the address, and yet another sensible system is to use a category, such as tree names, animal names, Nobel winners, or whatever. Another sensible system is to use the shortest possible names. The best system would combine all or most of those attributes. But, alas, everything is a hodge podge; LA uses multiple numbering systems, San Jose uses multiple road names, and Portland uses all sorts of appendages that are awful.

I applaud Fremont for being sensible in this manner.

My only complaint is that its center point is a hell hole.

If only there was a supercharger nearby.....

So the delivery experience specialists are supposed to drive you to the possibly full supercharger at the tesla factory several miles away and show you how to charge that way instead?

Every other tesla service center that does deliveries have NEMA 14-50 outlets and wall connectors to demonstrate charging.

My factory delivery experience went something like this:
DS: "Did you watch the Tesla walkthrough video online?"
Me: "Yes."
DS: "OK. Enjoy your new Model S!"

I'm exaggerating slightly, but most of the delivery experience was spent setting up a profile, adjusting the seats and mirrors, and pairing my phone. I only recall being shown how to change adapters on the UMC, not an actual charging demonstration. To be fair, that wouldn't have been realistic given the dozens of deliveries going on that day.

Once you've learned how to plug the UMC handle into your charge port and unplug it again, you've effectively learned how to use a supercharger. Well, except maybe for the part about moving your car promptly when you're done. And preferring an unpaired stall. And making sure you park close enough so the handle will reach. And all the other stuff you find out as you take the journey. :)

I made a yearly service appointment for Friday, Sept. 29th by telephone on Monday, Sept. 25th. The person I spoke to did not mention that the service center in Fremont had moved from the factory to Kato. I also received a reminder by email that made no mention of the new site. So when I went to the factory site on Friday they directed me to the Kato site. When you go on the Tesla site on line and look up the Fremont service center it still lists the factory as the location.

GET ON THE BALL TESLA. YOU NEED TO UPDATE YOUR INFORMATION AND MAKE SURE YOUR SERVICE MANAGERS TELL PEOPLE WHO ARE MAKING APPOINTMENTS?

to be fair, the fremont service center location had already been updated on the website since two weeks ago, and I got an email from tesla last week about it as well. agree they probably should've told you on the phone.

You're right, it isn't. Those photos are from the New Delivery center at the 47623 address. we stopped by several times and saw others taking deliveries, and we walked around a bit and saw a pack of nine new model 3s out back ready for delivery.
