The rumor is, • Fremont will start using LFP cells from China for Standard Range Model 3/Y from Oct 1st, 2021 and • Model Y production in Texas/Berlin will start with 2170 cells instead of 4680. [Link]

What does this mean? I am not that technical.
Older battery size for Model S and X have been 18650.

Newer size starting from Model 3 and Y have been 2170.

The battery day projected the newest size 4680 would start in 2021 with the advantages of cheaper and longer range.

That means it's late.

It appears Tesla has swapped to prismatic/pouch cell construction for the LFP battery. Does this carry the same fire risk as the Chevy Bolt which also uses prismatic/pouch design?
