Front License Plate

I didn't have a front license plate on my 2010 Camaro for the entirety of its life. I drove it from across the entire country and in CA for several years. Even when stopped for speeding tickets a couple times, the [lack of] front plate was never mentioned. I kept it under the front seat just in case.

Not going to put a front plate on my Model 3. Not too worried about it

Perhaps a "broken" front plate mount is the answer? You could keep it under your seat with the broken pieces and some screws and indicate it just happened.

I am in California and was wondering about this. My Model S is on order and I prefer leaving the license plate off. Should I assume the car will be delivered without a license plate of any kind on the front? I have seen Tesla's with the ZERO EMISSION Plate on the back but did not notice the front.

As @codex57 noted the Model S front plate isn't drilled into the front fascia, but every S *does* come from the factory with the license plate bracket mounted onto it. It'll have the same paper "Zero Emissions" tag slotted in there when you take delivery. Not sure if you can request with your delivery specialist that it never be installed. Can't hurt to ask!

Also, oddly, the X is NOT delivered with the front plate bracket. (I say odd because I find it strange that one car is and the other isn't.)

So far it appears that the Model 3 is also delivered without the front plate bracket.

With the refresh, reason I've been told is that when they redid crash testing on the S it had the bracket on it. Therefore it needs to be manufactured and sold in the same configuration. Ultimately I'm sure the plate bracket had little to no impact on the crash results, but to avoid ambiguity, Tesla made the decision and is sticking to it.

The X was not crash tested with the bracket and apparently the 3 was not as well so standard configuration seems to be not having it installed by default.

Probably a good time to put this up.

California. City's parking enforcement is known to write tickets for cars with only the rear license plate. They tend to target tuner cars and higher end brands (Tesla is included). I've heard horror stories of people accumulating thousands of dollars of no plate ticket fines over the lifetime of the vehicle.

Those tow hook mounts that some cars can use is the best option. I have gotten lectured at by an overzealous cop who insisted that the plate had to be squarely in the middle.

I hope this is correct (the explanation makes sense!), as my Model 3 front plate bracket would just come right off anyway. I'd rather Tesla not even waste their time. :)
