No, AP1 is nowhere near enhanced autopilot. I have it myself. It's a decent laneskeeper on the highway, pretty much that's it. It does let you turn your blinker on to change lanes, but it's up to you to check to make sure you're not running into anyone.

Can I check MCU online. TSLA rep couldn't confirm but I know I can pay to have it upgraded

Yes. We upgraded our 2017 Model S from AP2 to AP3. It now has FSD Beta.
