Just curious, Did you check with Tesla what they would give on a trade? I have a perfect 1 year old, 2,000 mile Red/white Performance S and they gave me a ridiculously low offer on a trading ($25,000-$30,000 less than the are listing used for). Just wondering if it was a fluke or mistake.

Tesla will always low ball as they are primarily in business of selling new cars.

That being said, I am not sure what is the right price, but this is the math I'm considering for this P100DL + FSD beauty.

New Red Model S Performance + FSD is $97,490 (Car price) + 1200 (delivery) + $8000 (FSD) = $106,690

Given some 27500 miles, and 13 months age of the vehicle and it being a 2018 Model S which didn't have adaptive suspension/raven etc, for valuation and fair market i am considering two approach to find a reasonable price range where meeting of minds can happen

1. time/mileage based depreciation - I would consider 30% as more than fair depreciation for 1 year old car with such mileage, so that brings the price to: $69,083, and FSD is $8000, so about $77,083

2. Flat $1/mile depreciation, that will make it $71,190 + $8000 = $79,190

I hope this helps, and I am open to suggestions.

Thanks.

I feel their trade numbers were OK on the last couple Teslas I’ve traded back to them but I’m not sure why they were so cheap on my low mile P100D
I’d like to use that $1/mile depreciation method with my S.....times 2,000 miles....:) GLWS

Tesla came in very close to my estimates above.

2018 Tesla Model S Ludicrous
27,476 miles
Net trade-in credit*
$74,700

Yep, that trade-in value shall offer comfort the private buyer that they are getting it a discount from what tesla would sell it for, and more importantly their purchase is backed by official Tesla trade-in value in case they have change of mind after driving it for a week or so.
