The for-sale forms are moderated. I found it takes a number of hours for the post to get approved by a mod and appear in this section.

129K? hah, good luck. considering that there has been other fully loaded sigs listed and sold for under $100k you'll never get what you're asking for it. there was even an even more exclusive founders edition listed for $25k cheaper then yours. this is like those zillow listings for 'make me an offer I can't refuse' where people likes there houses for a million bucks dreaming for some idiot to come along and buy it. if I were you, I'd keep the car :) even if you were to sell it at that price, you'd spend the same amount to get the same thing back due to price increase and all those 'extra' options now being very costly. so from your perspective it'd be like giving the sig status away for free which just makes no sense.

When I tried to post FS, I was redirected from the TMC market place to a 3rd party fee based site. Now if you try to add a new thread it just hangs in a blank screen!

btw, it seems TMC is going to start charging for listing things for sale on here now. I suspect that's why you're being sent to a 3rd party site. http://www.teslamotorsclub.com/showthread.php/23360-Selling-stuff-on-TMC

I'm in the process of switching the marketplace over to a more organized format. It does interface with a 3rd party site which then automatically generates a forum thread in the proper place. At this time there are no fees for regular members besides what paypal might charge. But you wouldn't use paypal for a $100K+ car would you?

You can see a preview of it here: http://www.teslamotorsclub.com/classifieds.php

    Here's another site using a similar setup:http://forums.bimmerforums.com/forum/classifieds.php

I'll let you know when I'm done.

    Doug:

I think this is a bad idea ... Monetizing the market place takes away a very big member service (especially for me having contributed millions of page views with my threads on TMC... Leaves me with a very bad taste on my keyboard!). Sounds like the buyer pays the fee over 3k but this adds cost and needs the seller to be willing to put personal info on a third party site.

There is no fee over $3K and the personal info is an email address so you get a notification when your item has sold. Under $3K, payments are handled by paypal, and they are the only ones that get credit card info, etc. The system sometimes goes to a 3rd party site for SSL reasons. I think you're jumping to conclusions.

What's the alternative? Allow any joe schmoe (no pun intended) to take advantage of the user base TMC has developed to sell their wares at will? If you were on eBay, you'd be paying 13% of every transaction.

In any case, nothing is final and as doug said, there are no fees (other than PayPal fees if you choose to get paid that way). In the current incarnation, all what he is doing really does is add some organization to things.

Down the line, I think TMC would have every right to take a commission off merchants who come to TMC to sell their specialized merchandise to TMC's specialized userbase.

It costs money to run this site too.

Do the fees go to (A) 3rd party site, (B) TMC, or (C) some combination? I'm hopeful that a dominant portion goes to (B) rather than (A).

The listing fees or whatever, not paypal transaction fees.

Nice! I think this will add value to the site as the items for sale are not very organized.

I understand that it takes money to run the site but I would suggest setting up vendor sub-forums for the site. This is the way that most other sites that I frequent do it. Vendors have their own sub-forum that they can post up their wares and they have a hand in moderating it. In addiiton, you can institute forum fees and charge ~$20/year for forum members. Perks to these paying members could be to eliminate ads, add special paying member content, restricted access sub-forums, vendor discounts, etc. as a benefit of membership.

I can understand vetting FS posts to ensure that there are no scammers but paying per-transaction isn't a great model IMO.

To be clear, I don't mind vendors being forced to use the third party market place but I feel contributing TMC members should be able to sell direct to other members one time personal property items eg car, tires, etc.
