FSD Visualization Lockup, No Driver Assist Features, 10hr Drive Sadness

I have a 2021 MYP on 2021.24.11 update and this happened to me twice on a 10 hour drive today ironically. The problem is it resulted in only being able to use my FSD for about 3 hours out of the duration of the drive.

Both happened when I had autopilot activated while in or entering a construction zone. Problem I had was once it happened, I lost all FSD visualization, autopilot, cruise control, lane keep, auto brights, and basically all other driver assist features.

Called Tesla after it happened the first time about 2 hours into my 10 hour drive. They said it was a communication error between the center camera in the front and the car. They recommended I reset camera calibration which I did. Tried several soft resets, changed gears, put car to sleep, turned features on and off. Nothing happened and it stayed that way for 4 hours. I did reset the dash cam USB and record a new file to it. Wife checked it while I'm the passenger seat and the video from that camera (and all others) worked great.

When I got to the next charger I shut the car down and disabled all features, disconnected phones and let it to go sleep for about 25 minutes before charging. To my surprise, all features were back and the cameras were calibrating. I charged up then got on my way.

I get 45 minutes into my drive again and when entering a construction zone BOOM! Same thing.... I gave up and drove manually the rest of the way. Opened a service ticket as well. Pretty disappointing considering I paid $10k for FSD and during a prime time to use it, I can't....

Side note, the efficiency was significantly better while all of the systems were locked out. With cruise at around 76mph and loaded down with vacation stuff I was getting around 308wh/mi when the systems worked. When they failed, I was averaging around 270wh/mi and driving it much harder with speeds around 80-90mph. Weirdest thing.

Still nothing from the Tesla service side of things and I have not been able to get the features to come back no matter the solution since the second time it happened. A deep sleep corrected it after the initial time this happened although the issues came back after about 45 minutes. Seems like even more has stopped working now and the situation is getting worse. Not none of the cameras work as far as I can tell and the vehicle shows proximity in all corners of the car while driving on a road with no obstructions. The proximity doesn't change while driving but at a stop drops off until in motion again.

I tweeted at Elon and Tesla for fun but as of now my service appointment is two weeks from now.

Could it be a software bug that requires a re-installation or is there any new software update before your appointment 2 weeks from now?

I would send a message to Service Center to ask whether they can push you another re-installation of the software update over the air so you might not have to wait for your appointment.

So I did power cycle the car for over an hour and that made no difference. I have no disconnected the 12v battery as from what I understand researching it, I have to disconnect the harness under the rear seats for the main battery as well?

I just sent service a message asking to either resend the current firmware or send a new version out of possible.

As of now my date has been pushed back to October 7th and I have to bring it into Tesla service. Worst part is, they cannot guarantee a loaner car and I can't take ubers to work (secure work property requiring escort).

Hey OP I had the same exact issue!!! Have you tried unplugging USB for sentry? Furthermore, is your center console lid open?
For me I went crazy like you trying to figure this out as everything GPS/camera/nav/AP related failed, car refused to sleep. After 2 days, the car randomly told me to close the center console lid and then everything went back to normal! I did tons of research and it seems to be a random software bug that'll fix itself over time, users reporting within few hours to few days.

It *could* be possible you have an unstable hardware connection to a camera triggering the car to shut everything down to a service center wouldn't be a bad idea but for me it was a random software glitch.... very annoying

The USB (the metal Tesla one it came with) is and has been completely removed for two days. Sentry mode if turned off as well as dash cam. Summon is on standby. Prior to removing the USB I formatted it, reset camera calibration several times (doesn't do anything, no steering wheel with progress etc) and did soft/hard resets several times with no changes. The car does go to sleep and has been a lot since everything is off. I don't believe I've ever seen a notification about the center console but it is closed and I ooen/close it several times a day.

I called the national assistance/support line or whatever it's called at around 7pm and they said they can't push a software update and my service center is closed but that's who can push them. The reps name was Tyler and he was very understanding, sounds like he's an advocate for more training for them, and even called a western service center asking them to push an update (great experience with him). They wouldn't because my service center is already involved and reviewed the logs and has a plan or so they said.

I called a service center in CA and sweet talked them and they pushed the same update I'm on, 2021.24.11. I told it to install. Got the notification it would install, then nothing.... Never got a notification it finished. I didn't for the original update actually either a few days ago, asked my wife if she did on her phone and she said no and I just wrote it off. Now it's a bit more alarming. Got in the car, no sign it updated, no notification etc. So I'm really confused what it did and if it even updated. From the moment I told it to start, I set my phone down and didn't touch it for 45 minutes.

I'm not ruling out a hardware issue by any means but I've now found two other similar reports in this software so starting to feel more and more like it's a software issue. Maybe it can be fixed with an update, maybe it bricked a component. Hoping to call a service center a little further from me that's open on Saturdays tomorrow and see if they can push a newer update than 24.11 to it. 🤞

I think if I were you, I'd drive it to the service center and tell them that it's a safety issue and they need to fix it. I know with folks who had issues with the heat crapping out in the winter up north, they were told to bring it right in as it's a safety issue if you can't defrost your windows. That doesn't solve your issue of a loaner, but it may help you jump the line in terms of appointment date....

This looks very similar to the issue we are discussing here! We're on 2021.32.22.

So yesterday I'm backing in to the supercharger in Effingham, IL. I'm watching out my rear view mirrors and referencing my distance to the curb using my rear camera. It appeared I was about 10 feet out as I turned the wheel since it seemed I was at a 30 degree angle from the spot and POW! I've hit the tesla sign in the parking spot and crunched my bumper. Dumbfounded I look over to my screen. It still shows me 10 feet from the spot! No aural warnings either. So I try to move forward and I have no D R N displayed and the car won't move. So I grab my phone to take a photo of this, but just at the moment the screen goes black and the car reboots. I'm pissed! Does anyone know what happened? I texted service just to let them know and hopefully they can download something. I appears the car's MCU just froze and the car rolled. There were people and little kids walking all around the chargers. Glad no one was behind me!

I guess the screen froze. Not unknown but pretty rare.

But not just the screen. Has anyone seen the gear selector go away. I couldn't put it in drive, reverse, just got stuck there smashed into the pole until it finally started a reboot on it's own. What a mess. I have an appointment with Tesla to fix the bumper in November. The other thing I notice is a warning that intermittently pops up saying that park assist is not working.
