Is there any point paying for the "Full self-driving capability" for a car in Australia? Is there likely to be any partial functionality? I would assume it its not legally allowed in the region its being sold it would not be an option at purchase.

Its really hard to say right now. NSW RMS has no literature on a self drive vehicle. Having said that, Google sydney has/had a self drive sign writen lexus hybrid, with strange looking boxes on the roof parked outside their office a month ago. I think it was Bosch that just build up a tesla in partnership with Vic roads. The rules could change very soon.

    Hi Jeraldinho,

The industry and government in Australia are actively considering the implications of fully automonus cars.

The link below is for a paper by Clayton Utz (one of the large legal firms that provides services to a number of government departments). It is publically available despite the https web address.

Having specced out my X with full self drive I have formed a opinion that our ridiculously narrow lanes, inconsistent lane markings and slow transport authorities, we will be well behind the rest of the world before full functionality is allowed.

I try and use it as much as possible, hoping that any aborts or driver interventions at the same coordinate will flag that point for a coding fix.

But it can get scary if not ready to grab the wheel and correct the Robot's crazy driving.
