Full Self Driving changed to autopilot (after private party purchase)

I have just bought a 2020 M3 dual motor in the UK. When I test drove it and after I brought it home on the software screen it said “Full Self Driving Capability Included Package”. When I added my account and did a software update this changed to “Autopilot Included Package”. I have been on to the Tesla help chat and keep getting told that it means I have the computer but not the software upgrade. Because I cannot talk to anyone directly to try to clear up they close my case down as being solved before I can discuss it further. Is this normal?

I thought that the FSD package was bought with the car and went with the car during a private sale, not that Tesla can take it away to try to double dip on the £6.5k!

Can any one point me in the right direction or am I just left without something I thought came with the car?

It can be an issue when a subsequent owner suddenly loses a software feature, FSD in this case.

Tesla could make a mistake so you need to provide the paperwork showing that the FSD was fully paid.

Tesla doesn't accept a picture of FSD when you took the car home. They want to know the FSD proof of purchase paperwork.

Thanks Tam, that is frustrating, I do not have the contact details of the original owner, so unable to get the evidence they require. Doubly frustrating as the original owner would have paid a large chunk of change on promises which never materialised during their ownership.

Yes, 2x.
Not getting customer support from Tesla - normal.
Getting software packages (FSD, AP) reset during change of ownership - random but normal. Might even happen months into new owner's tenure.

Did anything in the bill of sale state that you are buying a car with FSD?
If not, I would assume that you did not (e.g., the seller may have had a "monthly trial" FSD or" transferred" old FSD subscription to a new car he/she bought).

I thought that the FSD package was bought with the car and went with the car during a private sale,

Don't assume anything.
FSD is either in the bill of sale (BOS), or it isn't.

They most definitely can.
And if it is in their interest, they most likely will.

Can any one point me in the right direction or am I just left without something I thought came with the car?

  1. It is not entirely clear that FSD came with the car.
  2. As others recommended, "try" it for a month, and you may find that you are not missing anything of value.
  3. Don't assume anything when transferring property rights. It's either in the contract (FSD / charger / extra infotainment services / extra wheels / etc. - when buying the car; furniture / appliances / electronics / shed / kids playground elements / yard equipment / tools inside the garage / etc. - when buying a house).

Maybe the guy transferred FSD to a new Tesla he just bought. That would be just like what people would do nowadays.
