Gas stations are dangerous!

Replacing a bridge is mega-expensive. Ironic that "cool" logo under the flaming hot tank... __not__ cool.

...Something similar happened in the SF Bay Area not too long ago.

Yeah, that 880 Tanker fire basically melted the bridge above.

Gas stations also tend to take up premium real estate. In Cupertino, what would nominally be the intersection at the heart of the city has two gas stations on opposite corners. I often imagine how much better things will be when those stations are finally gone and converted to something more pedestrian friendly. And not so obnoxiously over-lit at night.

Another story...

Really messed things up here in LA if you drove the 60 freeway. It' has always been one to avoid anyway being so old. We had two late to work when the number is usually 0 for months.

Hey, great observation. Wouldn't that provide enough electricity to charge hundreds of electric miles - a fair chunk of all the gasoline miles sold during the day!

Great point. Electricity to light (and heat/cool) gas stations needs to be included in the kWh/gallon (or Litre, or Imperial Gallons) calculation.

EV economics are looking better every day.

The SUV lady said she didn't see the Hummer waiting for the pump. He honked at her, scaring her and she hit the gas instead of the brake. I believe this story because I often can't see Hummers but I do see their tires and smell their fumes.

She also was probably going 30 mph to start. Her impatience cost her a car and probably much more. Could have been worse.

It's not just gas stations that are dangerous ... this bus had 26 people onboard, the driver had no idea the bus was on fire.

Greyhound Bus Catches Fire

Sad thing is: I have been on one of these busses. Lack of maintenance is a big issue. I was on one when the set of dual rear tires wheels separated from the axle. It is a weird feeling when you see the wheels roll out from under a bus that you are riding in.
