I just got a gen 1 charger off ebay that was advertised as in working condition. It only came with the standard power adapter and not the 14-50.

When I plugged it in I got an error that said "check power source" and the car would not charge. I have read that the gen 1 mobile charger should work fine, was that info incorrect?

UMC1 should work perfectly fine although they have high failure rates if they were originally used at the higher 40A limit for a while. Does your UMC2 work fine on the same plug?

Check to make sure there is no plastic or debris stuck in the end of the cord that goes in the car (does not sound like your issue).

As others mentioned, it should work fine.

Check to make sure the receptacle you are plugging into is grounded correctly. Trying with the UMC Gen 2 that came with the car is a good suggestion.

Might be worth finding a Model S to try it with as well as a data point.

Also check the incoming power with a meter.
