Yeah but after that I thought he went and released the instructions on how to build it and the project marched forward as a user-built thing. no? I'm wondering how good the driving itself has become.

Also… when has GeoHot ever stuck with a project for more than 3 months? (You'd think he and Elon would get along super well given their similar modes of operation…)
Well for what it's worth he is apparently on version 0.3.5 and there is a guy making "episodes" reviewing the updates. Here's episode 3:

Last I heard he was interested in buying an AP2-based Tesla to write his own AP for it and got shutdown by Tesla: Tesla made it difficult for hacker geohot to buy a Model S and use his own software to power Autopilot 2.0 I guess he returned to more obtainable cars after that.

Seriously? There's a reason that video doesn't really show the road. If you see the yellow lines in the upper left, it appears the car is all over the place.

It’s incredibly hard to place the camera to show full steering wheel, the comma neo and the road... we have better videos. We can drive for hours without touching the steering wheel except for lane changes and bumping the user awareness every 6 min.
Here's another very raw video, but it shows clearly that steering control is working.
Also demonstrates that we've gotten the Tesla autopilot sounds to play from the Tesla sound system as openpilot is engaged and disengaged.
The CID also shows some of the CAN messages we track/modify to get this working.

I'm interested to see how it performs on sharp curves and other places that AP 1 and 2 have trouble.

An AP1 friend tested our car and found Openpilot to be much smoother. We will show more videos, time permitting.
