India’s lithium gigafactory ambition raised to 50 GW, tender likely soon

Will Tesla be participating in this bid to develop a 50GWh factory in India?

The incentives look good for Tesla:

• Reduce minimum alternate tax [duty] by half
• Import/export duty waivers or cuts for eight years.

Companies would have to set up production by 2022. So this fast timeframe also is in line with how Tesla likes to move.

It sounds like companies will need to set up production before they can use all the incentives. Would these incentive open the door for Tesla to import any of its products?

All of this seems attractive to Tesla. I can't think of a compelling reason why Tesla would not put forward a strong bid.

So let's discuss the prospects for a Tesla Gigafactory in India.

Tesla could do an all-in-one Gigafactory, from battery production to car / Powerwall build complete.

Why would they need a break on import duties? The incentives don't seem as attractive to domestic companies.

Any capital equipment (and may be other raw materials) they want to import.
