The local Austin paper is reporting that the county is considering an incentive package for the Tesla Gigafactory:

Check out the Google street-view map near the proposed area. This stretch of Hwy 79 is paralleled by train tracks, which easily connect to Amtrak's southern East-West route. It goes all the way to Los Angeles, or down to the Gulf coast in Houston and New Orleans, and from there Jacksonville, Chicago, or New York. This would help streamline large-scale shipping. The closest tracks to Tulsa are 100 miles away in Oklahoma City.

This site would also be across the street from the most ironic sign ever.

they'll have a courtside view of the "competition "

Wonder why they didn't pick something off 290 for better highway access.

I used to drive SH130 everyday. Great location with proximity to airport and 71 etc

Elon's trying to max. out the tax breaks etc. smart in a business friendly state, and also liberal ATX island.

Terafactory Texas. We are talking 2100 acres!

This approaches triple the ridiculous size of Giga Berlin's land area (which dwarfs Giga Shanghai).

Most outlets seem to show the Austin property as the triangle bounded by SH130, Harold Green Rd, and the water. That's several oddly-shaped parcels, but it only adds up to about 600 acres.

To get 2000+ acres, the purchase would need to include all of the adjacent parcels with the same owner (TXI Operations) that extend northeast for some distance.

This is where I got 2100 acres from: Travis County considering $14.65 million tax break for Tesla

If one company owns all of it, would not be surprising if Tesla just bought everything.

We'll see how it shakes out.
