My glove box keeps falling open while driving. The first time I thought i had accidentally hit the button, second time I thought I hadn't closed it properly....now it won't stay closed more than a minute while driving. It appears the latches aren't engaging properly

Anyone else have this issue? Do you know how Telsa fixes it? (I'm assuming replacement of the latches). Unfortunately, I can't get any support, 3 phone calls last Thursday and was told a mobile specialist would call me back to schedule an appointment - that never happened. Tesla sent me a satisfaction survey somehow thinking it was resolved. I called again today and have been waiting 4 hours for a callback.

It could be worse, the car could be incapacitated, but it's still annoying & embarrassing with passengers.

Easy fix

JK, mine is fine. Not sure I’ve ever opened it.

It's a known issue, and I've had it. Tesla had to order a new glove box assembly and install it. The good news is the mobile service was very courteous and convenient.

Oh, and the duct tape solution did not work for me. The adhesive was not strong enough to hold it open, and it also left tape residue.

That was a joke, but surprised it didn't work. I surely wouldn't put duct tape on my dash.

I had the same issue. I taped for a few weeks.
The mobile technician came by and fixed. He didn’t have to replace anything. It works well now. No issue.

Having the same issue on my Model 3. Occasionally opens on its own, more often when my wife is in the passenger seat for whatever reason. One of those "I'll get it dealt with when I have time" things, but still somewhat annoying. The latches must be a little loose...

Just a quick update on this issue. I had mobile service come by today to fix the problem, and this is accomplished by replacing the entire glove box assembly.

Apparently the issue is caused by the fact that actuator motor on the original glove box design has a foam gasket that was not expanding enough, causing the latches to not extend correctly, resulting in the glove box opening at random. This gasket was replaced on the newer design with a more "squishy" gasket that expands more effectively and fixes the issue.

So, if you have this issue give Tesla a call and schedule mobile service to come and fix it for you.

Here's a pic of the original glove box showing the gasket in question. VIN 31XXX, May 2018 manufacture.

My model 3 (Vin 14xxx) started having the same issue today. The glove box stays closed for about 2 seconds and then randomly pops open. Even light pressure on the glove box pulls it open. The car now has 20k miles, and this is the first time it’s ever happened. I even tried rebooting the screen to see if that would make a difference, but it didn’t.

Posted a service request. Will update with the outcome.

So instead of a spring that would last forever they used a bit of squishy foam that will oxidize from ozone and fall apart?? Seems like a basic design fail.

Had the same problem and just had the glove box replaced today by a mobile service guy. He said there was a known issue with earlier models that was addressed in the newer glove box. It is definitely better, but now there is a slight “twang” sound when it opens due to a spring that closes a flap at the top of the inside of the glove box when it opens. Not too annoying yet, but I noticed it right away when I first opened it.
