Glue collecting direct behind rear door

My 7 months old MS Refresh is developing a black outline along the protective tape on the bottom of the rear panel behind the door. It looks like dirt is collecting along the edge of the tape and the glue is attracting the dirt. It is ugly and I could not rub it off. Does anyone have the same problem? Any idea why they tape that section of the rear panel which is not subject to mud kicking forward by the rear tire?

I also installed the non OEM much flaps purchased from Amazon. Easy to install and looks good.

It is to prevent rock chipping, that part is very prone to it. It is lifting, probably from leg rubbing getting in and out, maybe its placed slightly too far forward. You can cut it without cutting the paint if you have a steady hand and a fresh sharp utility knife, if you are scared to do it maybe find a car wrapper local to you that you can get to do it for a sixpack of cold ones.

Looks like it might just be a little excess adhesive from the protection film Tesla installs. You might try Goo Gone or similar to remove the adhesive. My guess is once the excess adhesive is removed, it will not return.

I guess I really don't need the film it is starts peeling. Or Tesla may replace it under warranty.

If it is peeling and you start to use adhesive remover it will probably peel more. Remove it completely, maybe with some heat, or cut the peeling part before using the adhesive remover.

It's the edge of factory applied PPF. The fenders flare out there. The PPF is protecting the paint from rocks kicked up from the front tire

Not peeling. I guess the adhesive is leaking out a bit and picked up dirt. I will try the alcohol first. If not, the the Goof Off.

Funny the PPF is behind the back door in front of the wheel well. I cannot see why they would put it there.

The car flares out making that part of the car more susceptible to rocks kicked up by the front tires. If you see a Model S, look and you'll see.

Good to know. Hopefully my front mud flap will block all the rocks from kicking to the back.
