Interesting facts:
Volt owners will receive OnStar for free for an extended period. Dedicated OnStar agents will be able to answer a wide range of questions about using an electric car. In addition, OnStar will automatically work with any Volt buyer to help arrange installation of an appropriate 240-volt electrical outlet for home charging.
edit to add:
More on ONStar here
GM says it will take four hours to fully charge a Volt from a 220-volt designated charger, which will need to be professionally installed at your house (at an extra cost), or about 10 hours on a standard 20-amp, 110-volt outlet.
The white, iPod-like center stack will also be available in gray and nearly all the switches are touch sensitive like an iPod and have a click sound associated with them.

Consumer Reports says:
The most common reaction to driving the Volt is that it is quiet and the linear power delivery provides good acceleration, but the sedan feels heavy in the corners. It weighs about 3,800 pounds, making it porky for a car of this size.
I have driven it and totally agree.

GM Said to Price Chevrolet Volt at About $40,000

http://www.bloomberg.com/news/2010-...vrolet-volt-electric-car-at-about-40-000.html

General Motors Co., the largest U.S. automaker, plans to sell its Chevrolet Volt electric car for about $40,000, said a person familiar with the plans.

Pricing and ordering details for the car will be announced tomorrow at 12 p.m. New York time by Joel Ewanick, vice president of U.S. marketing, at a news conference in San Jose, California, GM said today on its website.
...
Dave Darovitz, a GM spokesman, declined to comment.

Hmm, high or about right? I think $40K is a bit high for the Volt...especially given the expected base price for an S. But everything is subject to change, and nothing is confirmed...

Well how about 41k? is that too much because it's been confirmed  http://green.autoblog.com/2010/07/27/2011-chevrolet-volt-to-be-priced-at-41-000-350-month-lease-fo/

That 41k price point is a little too close to a Tesla Model S for my liking. They Priced the Volt in the near/entry-level luxury market, hopefully the fit and finish are up to that market standards (with competitors like the Lexus HS250h and Lincoln MKZ hyrbid). It puts the Volt almost 10k pricier than the Nissan Leaf. I can't see a problem with putting ~10k to the price of a Volt and getting a Model S instead.

The Chevy Volt is very competitive when considered for leasing, only 350 per month and 2,500 down. what concerns me as a buyer is the price gouging by dealers due to the limited availability.

41k for a crappy GM product that still has an ICE. You have to be out of your mind. There is nothing luxury about the volt, except the price.

Granted, the Model S is 16.5k more.

41k for the volt or 41k for the Lexus hs250h, I don't see the difference but the moniker. Let me tell you as a person that has driven and rides in a HS frequently (best friend has one) it's not lexus like at all (noise, handling,engine/power train refinement and space)

and the 16.5k gets you a far larger car (the volt is still considered a compact car), 5 seater (and option for 2 children), leather seats, one trunk in the rear and one in the front, and sporty performance with a 160 mile range to start with and level 3 charging (they keep changing the name of it from quick charge, to dc-dc charge to level 3 charging).

I do wish GM the best with the volt, but that's not my cup of tea.

Just watched the vid & read the article. It's funny how GM wants to avoid the terms "plug-in hybrid" and "hybrid" - even though they describe the Volt so well. I don't want to hate on Chevy, but come on. They should embrace the decision they made.
