Problem is gas will be cheap(ish) for another decade or two, and GM cares about money more than social/environmental responsibility.

It's not GM. They are going to produce what their customers want to buy. And as more electric cars and alternative energy sources come along gas is going to get REALLY inexpensive.

They have a choice. Tesla could have been a V8 maker.
They are just taking the easy option, without regard for the environment.
