GNote to design staff: If you’re going to build an electric car, especially one for the California market where people routinely drive long distances, be sure the batteries have range. Alas, the EV1’s batteries lacked oomph. The snug 2-seater was also expensive to build. Was it a zero-emissions car designed by those with zero IQ? Harsh talk! What’s clear is that the EV1 was another flop for GM.
 
I was able to take an EV1 for a spin as part of a collegiate solar-car-racing team (see avatar).

GM and EDS sponsored Sunrayce '99 (North American collegiate solar-powered vehicle cross-country race), and GM brought an EV1 along with, showing it to the public and offering some test drives etc. at the 'media stops' spaced along the route.

The car was a blast to drive. Instant torque :biggrin:

I wonder how many EV1 leasees now own a Roadster or have a reservation on a Model S?
