Going from metric to imperial countries

What happens when you go between metric and imperial countries? Say your X is set up for kilometers and you go through the tunnel to the UK, what happens?

Ideally the speedo would switch to MPH.

Speaking from Canada <-> US experience, it will remain in the unit you have selected in your profile, but the speed limit as indicated by the signs on the road will be converted to your home-country unit. So for example with the unit set as km and a speed limit of 45 mph in the US, the white square sign in your IC will show 72 (km/h).
