Of course. MCU1 cars were delivered brand new until a year ago, and the browser isn't slow because of the architecture it's slow because it's crappy code.

I'm most excited for this update because it should bring the browser into the 2010s and allow it to render modern pages - like Gmail for example so I can finally see incoming texts on my car's screen.

I wouldn't go as far as @mai_tsla in commenting on the possible effect of Chrome on the battery. However, he has a point. I use Chrome on my laptop and there are these nasty support routines in the background called "Google Chrome Helper" that eat up CPU resource, so it could have a bad effect on other display functions.

Over the 5 years I've owned my S, the display functions have become slower and slower, and not just the browser. The car used to power up in less than a second. It now takes about 5 or 6 at least after hitting the brake pedal. In the latest version (I'm on V9.0 - 2018.50.6) the media app can take over a minute to boot up. While these longer times are hardly life-threatening, it does represent a noticeable deterioration in the user-friendliness of the car. I used to get in the car, hit the bake pedal, immediately flip the drive lever and off we go. Now it takes as long as turning an ignition key, pressing a starter button and selecting a gear ... ouch.

I've found the newer cars with the latest MCUs take longer to 'go' then my 2017 S with the older MCU. This from various loaner vehicles....I have never seen powering up (or something similar) on my car.
