GOT MY VIN

OK....
Saw my car on the video of the parking lot at the Fremont delivery center. The narrator mentioned the VIN as he walked past it. So I can verify it's there. Just waiting, for my DS to contact, with money in hand ready to make Tesla a pinch richer.

Congrats! Can you update when they call you to pick up? Intrigued to know if those cars are getting moved quickly or if there's a lot of rework being done on them?

This is so weird. I’ve had my VIN since last Thursday. So I called Tesla today to get a status update.

They told me the name of my delivery specialist and that I was supposed to take delivery in San Francisco. But I live near Burlingame and that’s where I placed my order.

I want to pick up at the Fremont factory. They’ve updated my file with that information. Hopefully picking up in Fremont will speed things up.

How did you guys get in contact with the delivery specialist initially? Or did they reach out?

I've yet to hear from one or get assigned a VIN. I'll probably give them a call later because I need to confirm some details for the paperwork.

Yes same boat as a lot of the pre-Thanksgiving LA / SoCal orders. 4 weeks is 6 days away.

That's what one of the people I talked to said also, when I called the store in SF they said they are only delivering out of Fremont. Typical Tesla communication I guess...

I have been calling the 888 number on the mytesla page but have yet to successfully track down/get assigned a delivery specialist. The inside sales guy said he would give me an update today but no call as of yet. On the plus side at least someone on reddit was able to take a picture of my car sitting at the delivery center on Sunday...

I think the parking lots full of M3's are not awaiting delivery.

They are waiting in a queue to charge.

Seriously, when full production is realized, it will be interesting to see how Tesla will keep those cars from bricking. (5000/week production). Which means 5000 + L2 chargers.

They'll have to ask Solar City to panel the entire Calif Central Valley.

Even if the cars were sitting around a long time, self discharge on the pack in deep sleep is very low (likely more so on a 3 with integrated 12V converter). They currently send vehicles overseas via ship, so long periods without a charger are a solved problem.

Keep in mind the packs are built in Nevada at the gigafactory, where they are pre-charged somewhat (I would guess to ~60% capacity, but I could be totally off there) using local energy (completely renewable at some point is the plan). The final topping-off before handing to the customer comes at the delivery center. Which yes, will be interesting at say Marina Del Rey, but won't be 5k/week. Also, it doesn't take a week to charge a car, so you don't need 5k chargers to charge 5k cars in a week.

Yes, I agree with that, but since it looks like they will be building, not to order, but in batches - wouldn't there be some concern for those few that may sit awhile? Even starting out at say 60% there is some usage such as battery maintaining for temps, etc. Think of similar with the MS and MX when parking at airports on an extended trip - always a concern, but usually monitored by the owner. It would be simpler to just have bays of L2 chargers that the newly built cars would connect to (set them to maintain 80 %) until ready to release. Supercharging would be labor intensive (connect, disconnect, relocate). I know environment in Fremont is not a big concern, but temp extremes do happen on occasion - plus there will be other locations for staging. 5000 per week (plus MS and MX) will not be cycled from Fremont to owner that quickly.
