I think the American version has a base track to install and the protector clips in the track. It's two piece design.

We tried that about four years ago. It exists, but has very little activity (perhaps 1 outing a year). I think there just weren't enough roadster owners here. Now, perhaps, with more Model S owners the interest will pick up.

We have national drive week every year. I show my EVs every year, except this year because I am in Hong Kong. There will be BEV parade and I have sent my son and daughter to go with their EVs. See: National Drive Electric Week Event - Cupertino May be something like this can be organized in HK?
From the TED event several people asked where I got the rim protectors.
Note: Suspension is in very high mode for my car park.

So far my experience has been positive. In one case I hit a curb between 5-10 kph and just roughed up the outside red trim. A few days later hit the curb at the Shun Tak ferry terminal car park Octopus card reader around 15 kph. A small part got damage and I just cut it out and replaced it. The rim protector did its job. It leaves no damaging residue on the rim. The Amazon reviews are mixed.
For the 19” wheels there is enough extra material to do one extra wheel. I estimate there is enough extra material if you have 21" wheels to replace a few damaged sections but not an entire wheel.
Installation tip: Make sure wheel rims are very clean. I cleaned the edge of my rims with rubbing alcohol several times to get the cleanest surface.
Purchase tip: For the silver wheels like mine the silver track is almost invisible. For the gray turbine wheels I would recommend the black track and then the trim color of your choice.
Center Caps: I installed the red center caps that match the red brake calipers and the wheel band red trim. I have an extra set each of blue and black center cap "T"s here in HK.
