Had your car removed and delivered to someone else for Q2 sales waiting room

Do you have a new VIN number? I'm hoping they get us new ones soon.
No not yet. My advisor guy says they are searching around today to find out if there are any nearby that match my configuration that haven't been picked up. I told him I'd rather have a newer build than a rejected one, and he replied there are often some that just don't get picked up. I'm not holding my breath.

Just wanted to see how many of us ar out here.

We had a VIN and delivery date for June 30th. Tesla was afraid car wouldn't arrive in time (we live in PA) so they assigned it to someone else closer to Fremont to make Q2 numvers. Now we have no VIN.

Was told we should be at the front of the line starting July 1st. Let's hope!

As long as you didn't pay in full before the 30th, it should be fine. You didn't pay in full, did you?

We didn't pay in full

Was told I should have a vin this week. No vin still. This is getting kind of annoying. We had a car, we had a delivery date, it was pulled from us, now we still have nothing.

I agree. This is something no other car maker does. Once they assign a VIN to an order (which is really a dealer delivery slot) it will go to the dealership of purchase and nowhere else (unless something goes wrong in transit-- ex. the ship sinks. see MV Tricolor). Now, the dealership could screw you over and sell your car to someone else but I don't know how often that happens.

If Tesla wants the option of moving a VIN to a different customer at the end of the quarter they should not post the VIN on the order page until they know they are going to sell it to a specific customer.

Tesla can only book revenue when the car is paid for and all paperwork is complete.

If you tell your delivery specialist that you are witholding final payment until you can personally inspect the car, they will have some incentive to deliver it to a more eager buyer.

After the end of the Quarter push, Tesla will begin sending their production to Asia and Europe. This will set the stage for them to get delivered by the end of the next Quarter. Lots of customers have been waiting overseas for deliveries, however none recently have been arriving because Tesla is pushing all deliveries to the domestic market.

This is why you can often get an order in near EOQ and receive delivery in just a few days, but those ordering just after EOQ might need to wait for months.

Tesla is under tremendous pressure to deliver constantly increasing volume. They are running hard and are working to optimize a frantic delivery schedule. Things are changing so fast with current conditions so they often must switch strategies at the last minute.

Customers can feel this going on. It has to be upsetting when both the customer and builder are struggling at the last minute to optimize their individual delivery situation.

Balancing supply and demand must be one of the most challenging situations for Tesla.

Until more Gigafactories are up and running, this dance will continue.

The only thing we told our delivery specialist was "excited for thedthe date! See you then!!"

We weren't withholding any payment. We set up our bank account for the withdrawal and had insurance set.

And as I have said before, I'm not totally upset that they moved my car. I get it. They wanted to smash expectations. And they did! Their stock is over $1200 now! That's great! Go Tesla!!

My issue is the total lack of communication. If pulling people's cars and delivery date helped them make good numbers, then throw us a bone or something. Get us a VIN and start making our cars day one.

This is where the user outdoors will disagree haha.

Delivery advisory assured me he'd be looking for a matched configuration starting July 1. He hasn't been able to find one. Guess I'm waiting on the factory, my financing expires July 20. Any idea if we have any priority coming out of Fremont factory?

I was told we do. My SA said stating July 1st they will resume shipping cars to the east coast only to make up for pulling them. But we still don't have a VIN and I see people west coast taking deliveries. So I don't know.

Driving off the lot (your taillights pass the curb) is applicable to independent dealerships. Legacy manufacturers book revenue when they deliver to their licensed dealerships. Ownership then passes to the end consumer- buyer when his taillights pass the curb.

Independent Dealership takes ownership and begins paying flooring costs back to the manufacturer as the cars age on their lots. Often the manufacturer will offer one or several months of no charge flooring to give the dealer time to sell that car, but then begins to charge monthly flooring to incentivize that dealer to "move the iron?

Indeed, a similar experience for me. However, I have had two VINs assigned. The first car was considered "not salable" after it came off the factory floor in Fremont. The second arrived in Paramus, NJ but required a new charge port. Instead of shipping it to me after repairs, it was transferred to a local customer in New Jersey who could take possession on June 30. So yes, it was "production hell" to make the end of quarter deliveries.
That said, I learned yesterday, July 3 that a new VIN has been assigned. Frankly the person from Tesla who called thought that our car might be better coming off the line after the quarter deadline given all the imperfections cited on this forum. I will look at it as a silver lining, or perhaps a red multi-coat lining.

Europe delivery now has priority of course. It seems their logistics of creating priority failed going back to things like the Model 3 reservation list (why people stood in line...) The biggest lever you can pull is to tell a human that you will be cancelling the vehicle order and want a full refund in 2 weeks or else you will get your state attorney general involved.

Hi,

Just curious, where did you see that Europe will now have priority? I read in many places that the Y in Europe is tied to the Berlin Gigafactory.

It would totally suck if people in the US got the short end of the stick here, especially those waiting from 2019. Hoping for the best :/

Mike, you are correct. Y production is North America only. Once the Berlin Gigafactory is up and running, that will supply Europe. I'm "told" they will start matching cars to east coast and Canada for first deliveries. This seems to be somewhat true based on the the early Vins showing in Teslike's spreadsheet.

Well that would be ideal! Fingers crossed.

Just saw this and it happened to me .I believe exactly what you said .I guess living in New Jersey and pre-ordering since 3/2019 means nothing
