Has anyone installed a radar detector in a updated 2021 model S?

If anyone can provide more info on tapping a wire in the rearview mirror area I would be greatly appreciative. That worked wonderfully in my pre-refresh MS and if I can avoid having to run a wire all the way up the A Pillar from the OBD area then I would be a happy boy.

I ended up just getting a power adapter with a long cord, plugging it into the center console, and running the wire up the passenger side. Took about an hour, good result, and no worries about the car's electrical system that some have reported in tapping wires. If there are no consequences though the wire tap is certainly an easier route. I did that in my 2016 and it worked a charm.

How did you get the cord through the center console and then through to the passenger side?

There is a cigarette lighter ... wouldn't use it as it's in the center console and a longer run.
OBD connectors which supply power. Used it for a cell phone booster. Plus it cuts out when the car is off.
Rearview mirrors. I've retrofitted a few and dash cameras. Wouldn't use it. It's usually a hot power source and I've had batteries drain (even with voltage protection). But it's two wires and you can find generic plug-in adapters (or to USB-something) that you want. Just yanked one out of a Tundra to replace it with...
Fuse tap. Wouldn't use this either as I think the full fuse box is in the frunk and nothing in the passenger compartment. But if you need to power a front detector with a remote display ...

The OBD was the cleanest when I was running wires to the front/rear of the vehicle to mount the antennas for the cell phone boost (external antenna needed due to aluminum frame and coating on windows), and got used to using fish tape to run rear view cameras in the headliners of the MCU1 Tesla S's

Agree with you on most points. On the prior MS's, there was a free wire adapter in the roof grill that was an easy source. This is not in the refresh.
In the refresh, there are also no more fuses. They are all electronic. In my 2012 and 2015 MS's, the fuses were in the frunk, and in my 2018, it was in the passenger footwell. There is no easy way to tap the 12V battery either.
For the OBD on the refresh, pin 16 gives switched power, and pin 11 gives unswitched.

ESCORT MAX 360 with a 4 inch non slip pad that sits perfectly level on the centerline. Works perfect. Take it with you to your other car. Grab it turn it off place in tray as the flashing light car is behind you. Doesn't over heat. A couple extra batteries in tray. No wiring. Not a target to steal, blah . . . .

No huss. No fuss. We forget how to be simple in our quests for perfection. Thank you for the reminder.

S**t. I am not happy about this. I have always tapped wires on my previous MS's, without issue. I have a lighted T for the front, and tapped the headlight harness for that. I added trunk lights too. Again, one of you that has your refresh MS needs to search for the OBD port. It is somewhere.

What is the 12V battery in the refresh? I heard it changed. Can this be accesses somehow?
I am planning to reinstall my lighted T for my plaid X. Were you able to tap a wire for your lighted T?

Yes, there are several options. There is an OBD port on the Model S refresh, though not sure about the X. No problem there with switched power, and is how I ma powering my Escort. There is an unswitched pin in the OBD that worked for a few minutes, then dropped voltage to about 2.5V. There maybe a place to tap within the frunk, but I am holding off on releasing any thoughts about that until I see how it really works.

Ended up going a different route. Found a 12v to usb adapter and am currently using a rechargeable battery pack until a power source is found in the Frunk.
