Has anyone received their federal refund after the turbotax mess?

I love tax incentives. We got solar in 2018, so we had an enormous tax credit. We used the huge tax refund to pay off a lot of the solar loan.

The cool part is that the tax credit covered more than our tax liabilities allowed. So we have a rollover of credit for 2019. I also bought a Tesla and installed a charger at home, both of which come with their own tax credits on top of the rollover solar credits. Gonna be another great tax season!

That’s interesting. I did not realize the solar tax credit could be carried over. I know the EV tax credit can not. I have a reservation for a Tesla solar roof and they are telling me it could take 8 months or longer to get it installed. I guess as long as I get it by year end I can still take the 26% credit.

I used the online free file forms, standard deductions, but used Credit Karma to sanity check. Received mine early February after filing in late January.

Stop using Turbo Tax, they're a rip off service and are anti consumer. If you truly have complicated taxes, go to a tax specialist in person. At least that way you're supporting a small business, not a hostile corporation actively lobbying against easy tax filing.

I know the 2019 refund ended on Jan 1st 2020 and I tried looking online, but my CPA seems to think the $7,500 tax refund will be reinstated in 2020. Has anyone seen or heard anything supporting this speculation of his and a few others? My M3 Performance was ordered 3 weeks ago so hopefully it will arrive in the coming weeks.

Even if the Federal guv'ment did reinstate the credit (there were some efforts made in December), Tesla has already blown through their allotment.

However, you may still be eligible for a State rebate, which varies by state. In Washington state:
In Washington, new vehicles are subjected to a sales tax of 6.8%. With this tax credit, you'd be getting a rebate on the sales tax you pay up to $2,500 on new electric vehicles that cost less than $45,000.

And to respond to the original question:
Filed Standard
Return accepted on Feb 20
Received State refund last week.
No Federal refund as of March 4. In year's past, they've been close to each other, but we're not even at two weeks yet. However, according to this chart, I should have my money by Friday, so we'll see.

That is correct. Only solar tax credits roll over (probably because they can be a huge sum).

That's why if you have both solar and EV-related tax credits at the same time, you apply the EV-related ones first.

If they DID extend it, I wonder if they'd ever allow it to be applied retroactively. Just like how the tax credit for installing EV charging equipment ended in 2017. But it was jut extended again and is also retroactive all the way back to 2017 (so I can get the credit on the Tesla charger I installed in 2018).

e-Filed on 21 Feb. State refund received 2 Mar. Federal return still "being processed" according to the IRS' "Where's My Refund" tool as of today, 5 Mar.
