Has Anyone Who Ordered the Tow Hitch Received a Vin?

Hi all,

I was wondering did anyone that elected for factory tow hitch received delivery notification? I just want to make sure tow hitch is not delaying my order.

Same here. Just emailed the Delivery Specialist to ask what his thoughts are if the tow hitch will delay delivery. Hopefully he is still around and checking emails.

I just spoke with a delivery advisor. She said orders with tow hitch are not delayed. I ordered white/white, 19'', tow hitch, no FSD on 01/29. I was told to expect delivery in June. No vin yet though.

Someone in my area who ordered the same configuration as myself in the same month (July 2019) just got his delivered. The only difference is he ordered FSD (I did not) and I opted for the hitch.

Per the source lookup my vin is 68xx. White on White PUP w/ tow no FSD. I have a feeling the tow package is going to be something they put on afterwards with the service team. Although it would make more sense to put on when assembling the car.

I was wondering the same. It could be mobile service will do this after delivery.

Interesting. That gives me hope. The local Tesla manager told me they are just waiting on a VIN for me (White/Black, non-P, Induction wheels, w/tow, FSD). I don't mind if I have to wait to arrange mobile service or take it back for install so long as it happens. When I added it there were mixed signals as to whether it could even be added later or not, so I figured better safe than sorry.

I emailed the delivery specialist and here’s the reply.

“I believe it will need to be retrofitted to the vehicle after taking delivery.”

I think they are going to deliver as much as possible in the 2nd quarter.

I ordered on 2/28/2020, white ext, black seats, 20'', tow hitch with FSD. My VIN was assigned on 5/11 and received a text to schedule pick up. I called Tesla to add a tow hitch, and my VIN just disappear from my account but pick up date still there.
Made some calls and emails to confirm, store manager said now the hitch can only be installed in Fremont factory, so my model y is assigned to someone and I need to wait a "new" manufacture Y with hitch. Don't know how long will it take......
They didn't tell me I need to wait from beginning, or I won't add tow hitch at this time......
DO NOT add tow hitch before you pick up your Y........

We've heard "confirmations" from Tesla reps in both directions. Nothing is ever certain with Tesla until you have physical proof.

My delivery advisor indicated that factory installed tow hitch would delay delivery by an unknown time frame. Seems like those orders are also being delivered now. I don't know if that's because my advisor was wrong or if they are just installing them at the delivery center before you take delivery.

In the same conversation, she indicated that they would be available for installation after the fact. Sandy Munro also confirmed that it was possible in one of his videos. I'm guessing there are supply constraints at the moment.

I spoke with a delivery advisor (Cody) again this morning. I placed the order on 01/29 and the order was updated on 4/10 for tow hitch. He said the change made my order go back in line. WTH!

An advisor I spoke to couple days ago said tow hitch do not delay delivery.

Not sure whom to believe at this point. The advisor said if I removed the tow hitch, it will further delay my delivery since the order will have a new date.

That's frustrating. When I added the tow option I was told that since I called them to do it my place in line would not change, whereas if I had made it online myself it would have. I guess we'll know when we know lol.

Just a data point. I removed my tow hitch on Tuesday this week. On Thursday the same week, I received a delivery appointment for Saturday delivery at Fremont factory, VIN 10xxx.
