Has the quality of Tesla service gone into the toilet?

Is there legislation in the US that nonbranded repairshops need to get decent access to manuals and parts? Sounds like Tesla Service is a market opportunity.

I do get the argument that ICE dealers are not to be trusted.

However, considering the arguments SpaceX used to obtain competitive rocket business, as in equal opportunity access, Elon should stop boycotting a free market economy, as long as the shops are EV only specialists.

But overall I love my FWDs and wouldn't trade them in for 4 model 3's!
I would be interested to see #'s on all the of the service center man hours allocated to getting them working correctly? What about all the repairs Tesla has had to pay for of people who've had them run into things (scratches, dents, and paint, etc)? Not to mention the long-term reliability? The water ingress? The longer time to get in/out?
I personally know of more people who disliked them than liked... and many of those decided not to get the MX because of them. For me, I'd rather have an SUV than a sedan but not with those doors.. no way.

FWIW, I just had my 1yr service and while I can't comment on the resolution of all of my issues since it's raining and I don't want to go and really look things over, I can say that I'm still not overly enthused...

Everyone was friendly, and I actually got a Model S loaner this time (very early P85 so no AP and the stalks were all out of order from what I'm used to but it WAS a Model S), so that was a definite positive for sure. However, and I can't prove this nor would I even try as they turned off the mobile access from the moment I dropped it off, judging by the charging alerts I got my car wasn't touched again for 3 days...

I dropped it off on Monday, started seeing activity from my app this morning and go figure, it was finished up today (although I had to call Tesla they never called to tell me which is another issue by itself as I only knew because my service invoice was updated so I got the email but it's quite reasonable they simply hadn't gotten to me to notify me yet). If that's the case though and it sat for so long, then why did I have to bring it in 3 days ahead of the actual work? That is something that simply MUST be improved...

So... I'd rate myself a 6 out of 10 in overall happiness and experience....

Got an alert on my car today the charge port door needed to be replaced. Sent an email to [email protected] and a few hours later got a phone call from my local service center (Rocklin, CA) asking me when I could bring my car in. They had a number of appointments for tomorrow so I picked one that worked for me. They will repair it while I wait but they did offer me a loaner if I wanted it.

I believe service in Rocklin is like the Bay Area in 2014.

I kind of regret having opened this can of worms as it largely has become a complaint thread -- but that's what I invited I suppose.

Aside from the incident that prompted me to start the thread, my experience with Tesla service has been quite exceptional. And remember, I have a 2013 bought in the first year of full production. The problems have been minimal in my experience and the service has helped make it so. Of course, I have Ranger (now Valet) service which minimizes the number of times I have to drive the car to the service center myself. The Ranger picks it up at my home, leaves me a Model S loaner, and returns my car when the service is completed.

I'll be honest here, we just ordered our Model S with delivery in late December or early January.
But seeing some of these threads and discussions are making me wary of what I'm getting into.
Someone talk me down, is Tesla slipping? Or are there many more happy customers and we are just seeing the complaints here?

Thanks

I've been driving Tesla's since 2013. Service has always been exceptional. Just ordered a 3rd one for my wife, and as every married man knows, unhappy wife = unhappy life, so you never get your wife a car that you think would have problems. I am an early adopter, she is not, hence I waited until I had a chance to experience ownership myself for few years.

Take it all with a grain of salt. No company is perfect and the ppl complaining may be justified. But that's what forums are mostly used for. Complaining. Most of the happy customers will never join a forum. You made a great decision. Enjoy

The car displayed an alert to replace the charge port? That's a new one. What was wrong with it?

Ok good to hear it, we have had Solar on the roof for a couple years now, and now we are going to have a model S charging off of them and the Model 3 when ever it comes around. Excited!

It's a bit of a volume issue at the moment, Tesla is ramping up production rapidly, but SC capacity isn't growing quite as fast.

So the result is that minor issues may take a while to get serviced (non-critical things like squeaks and rattles) but Tesla will absolutely bend over backward to assist you as soon as possible if something more serious arises. I had a door handle issue (not absolutely critical, but I couldn't open one of my doors from the outside) and my local Service Center was pretty booked as it was right before Thanksgiving but Tesla sent a ranger to my house to fix the issue on my driveway within a few days. Another time my tires were pretty worn out and Tesla wanted to replace them ASAP before it began raining so they squeezed me in within the week. I've never had a critical non-drivable issue but I've heard that they have a special "line" for such vehicles to get them in and out as quickly as possible.

So for major issues, they will give you priority and get you taken care of but for minor things and regular maintenance it may take a few weeks. But I will say that right after Model X was rolled out, SvCs were much busier fixing initial quality issues but since they've fixed a lot of design and reliability issues on the factory line, my local service center has definitely gotten less busy since then.

And the Service team has always been top-notch and all my interactions with them have been nothing but wonderful. Tesla customer service has always been excellent.

I have had my model S for four years this month. Service has been a little uneven due to their rapid growth as new hires come on board. My original service adviser moved to a new service center as the manager. Since the new service center is closer to us, we moved there for service. The first advisers at the new location were not so great. Now when I go there they great me by name and provide excellent service. Last week they replaced my 12V battery and a tire pressure sensor, washed the car, and gave me a loaner even though I am out of warranty by mileage at no charge.

Service policy has also been evolving. I remember at the end of a quarter they sold off all the loaners and had a porter drive me back to my office in a ranger truck. Another time I stopped in on a Saturday to have the tires rotated. I planned to wait, but they insisted on giving me a P85D to drive for a couple of hours. Last week my embarrassed adviser gave me a Buick Regal rental saying loaner policy has changed again. This is at a site that has lots of parking so they keep trade in model Ss and CPO cars. Sometimes they have a porter drop off a loaner and pick up my car at my office, sometimes they do not have the personnel.

As others have noted, overall experience is very good. And I wouldn't trade the experience for any other wrt a car. The "cool" factor and fun of driving the car hasn't worn off in the 1.5 years I've had mine. I have zero regrets - well occasionally I have P envy; I have an 85D. But I will probably just stay with the D and go for max range for my next one. I drive faster in this car than in our ICE and I'm not sure I'd trust myself in the Performance version. Relax and enjoy your car!
