Hauling capacity: Benz GLE (ML-350) vs X w/ fold flat?

A friend asked me about this last night. Has anyone compared these in some bit of depth for hauling capacity? She's a gardener and has driven ML-350's for years. Her primary desire is a lot of flat space for flats of plants or bags of soil, headroom for taller plants, easy to load stuff in (she's 71 but doesn't realize it), etc.

it depends on which model x you are comparing with. The 5 seater has a very deep trunk and is relatively flat when you lay down the second row seats. I think it's among the leaders in trunk space. The 6 seater or 7 seater with the third row down and second row pushed as front isn't as deep.

The fold down 5 seater is leader in CU feet. You also have to remember the removable trunk floor the gives an additional 18" of height for those taller plants. No other SUV will be able to do that as the additional height is bc of no gas tank.

Good point about the under trunk. The only problem is that it's also under the lowest part of the rear door. Still should give a few more inches height compared to otherwise highest area?
